As Jo said, work out your budget, then call each of them to discuss what you want and what they can do for your money. You'll get a feel of them by talking to them in person rather than by emails or messages on here etc.

As mark (loudboy) has said, the Ashtons are currently building my xflow. I chose them as they have looked after my car since I've had it. I can highly recommend them, they're friendly and reliable and I know they'll do the best they can for your budget. They've built some stonking engines too ;)

I've no personal experience of the others, but I know of people who have used them, (loudboy and willsey for example) who will tell you the same thing about WPE as I will about the Ashtons. I'm sure many will have praise for HPE too. It's difficult for anyone to tell you who to use, have a trawl through the rooms on here, theres plenty of examples of engines built by each of the guys you're considering. At the end of the day needs to be your choice, so get calling!

Oh, and I'm an Essex boy too (Chelmsford) so look forward to seeing you at some meets!

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, I know it's my choice and I know a few of you are running an engine from one of them, I'll have to think about it and work out a budget and stuff, think we've met before but you had to leave early at the Chelsea cruise

Ah ok. Think I remember your car now. Yeah the girlfriend locked herself out of the flat and was panicking so I had to peel off and go back home to let her in. Lol

Have had no dealings with any of the other top engine boys on here so cant comment on what they offer but i can vouch for Ashton Mobile.

Colin and joe built my 2.1 monster to my spec and budget, nothing was too much hassle and whenever i need advice on any other plans i have for my car i run it past them first

Top lads !!!

As has already been said, your budget is the biggest factor! It is difficult to know how much you want to spend if you don't really know a ball park figure, and it is worth getting a feel for what parts etc cost to understand where your money is being spent! My dad often gets enquiries from people that want big power to find that they have a budget of £200 lol!

On a serious note, price wise for a modified xflow could be anything from £1000 all the way up to £5000+ depending on what spec you want and what you want to use the car for!

Whoever you decide to use, good luck with it and look forward to the music of twin carbs barking from beneath your bonnet!! ;) lol

Is that the same engine? If you don't mind me asking what sort of price. Pm me :-)

Not the same engine Mickey!

The one with the red pulleys is built for around 180 on 45's. the one with the blue pulleys is built for around 200 on 48 IDF's!

My dad will probably correct me but the price to build the blue one would be about £3000 without the carbs etc

Also, its worth noting the extras that you might need. Bigger carbs, better exhaust, hi torque starter etc. it all ads up and its not cheap!

Here's a pic of my xflow the Ashtons finished today.
