frankthefencer Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 I bought the whole lot front six pots and hydra mech rears. My mk2 is in classic ford magazine at the moment there is a pic in there. I think the whole lot with discs and pads was around £1500.
MKMark Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Discs on front, standard Anglia drums on rear. Unfortunately just failed MoT as rear ones weren't good enough. Hopefully sorted out now, re-test next week.
PaulMags Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Why do you need to upgrade your brakes m8 you dont go over 40mph.lol 1
Gooey Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 I have a Hi Spec 300mm 4 pot set up on my Capri
texr2000 Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Be Interested to know what set up is best for 13" wheels. Currently running princess 4pots on drilled and groved 2.8 disk with green suff pads. standard drums rear, controlled by a bias box. Have to say been thinking to make some changes as after the car been sitting for a few years and feel the brakes should be better, should be similar to my Caterham. Car is a few hundred KG less but stops amazing, that runs 13" and has 254mm disc and Caterham's AP 4pots on the front with sierra calipers 228mm disc on the rear, DS Performance pads all round via AP Master. Escort stoppers just never feel all that, pedal never feels as good as it could, and since come out this year getting some feedback through the steering when pressing hard on them, another job for the weekend haha
MK2Ed Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Anything over 13" wheel looks wrong on an OSF imo so fair play to Hi-spec for producing a 6 pot. But if you have <200 bhp and don't live in Milton Keynes I'd save the money for other upgrades and use good quality 4 pots (e.g. Hi-spec, Wilwood) instead
Admin Vista Posted June 14, 2013 Admin Report Posted June 14, 2013 Anything over 13" wheel looks wrong on an OSF imo So do 175/50/13's imo opinion....................but plenty of people fit and like them so each to their own. 1
EscortDan Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 It's all about surface area for maximum braking effect, bigger discs and pads will help a lot, if your sticking with 13" wheels get the biggest disc you can under there, 257mm will go with normal off the shelf calipers like willwood etc. and a decent fluid in the resiviour makes a huge difference.
EscortDan Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 So do 175/50/13's imo opinion....................but plenty of people fit and like them so each to their own. Some people with quite a bit of power need 15" wheels to get bigger brakes in there to haul it up, I don't think 15" wheels on an OSF is wrong! 185/60/13 is the way to go on 13's I am sure Wayne will be along soon to agree! 1
deltamal Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 Princess 4 pot's with green stuff pads and Capri drilled and vented discs, Mk5 Cortina estate rear axle which has bigger drums than the saloon, Granada servo....

Myself and wayne had a rather long chat about tyre sizes lol.
theloudboy Posted June 14, 2013 Report Posted June 14, 2013 this is my set up.. ok . but i'am out and about a lot more now, and i do tend to brake late ! ( me thinks that may be age ) they work fine... but i do like the new 6 pot from Hi-Spec... not to happy with the £960 price tag !! Don't what to change to a bigger rim...I like 13" I would have thought the brakes would be fine do they not stop well?.
