help with a S.O.R.N problem

i recently bought a daily mk7 escort, it ran out of tax the day after i bought it (31 june 2013) , its been sat in my garage since as havent needed to use it, i went on holiday a month ago and hadnt still recieved the v5 back in my name, the previous owner must have been slow at posting it off, ive since returned from a months holiday to find ive recieved the v5 back but also dated 3 days ago that ive been fined for not sorning it, 

am i correct in thinking i cant sorn it until i have the v5 back in my name , at worse case senario i may have recieved the v5 a day or 2 after i went on holiday in which case within 3 weeks maybe 4 weeks they,ve fined me for not sorning it, does anyone know where ill stand with this, obviously i cant sorn it while ive been away and hadnt recieved the v5 back.

I don't know, have you tried contacting them and explaining? What date does the V5C say the keeper was changed?

Should have declared it SORN with V980 form - you is banged to rights and you better start begging! LOL

havent contacted them as yet as wanted to find out the score first, the date on the v5 that i accuired the car is correct 30th june because thats the date i put on the v5 when i bought it but im suspecting the person i bought it from didnt send it off straight away. couple of weeks perhaps, then by the time its been processed into my name then sent to me im guessing around 6 weeks will have passed, ive been fined after only 8 weeks

v980, how long have they been around ?. how you meant to know these things, i always sorned once i recieved log book in my name

If you have the V5 in your name the only advantage is that you can SORN online - if not then the V980 form requires the use of carrier pigeons or postal service whichever is faster!

Its all on the DVLA Gubmint web site unfortunately so you is a crim in their eyes for not looking!
