jimmyesh
Thanks for a great day, was the first OSF meet I've taken my black MK1 Escort along to (aside from CF show '13) The last time I came along to an OSF meet was back in 2007 in my old Red MK1 Escort. Great to be back! Jim.

Vista
Just home, nearly 600 miles covered in the van this weekend! I stopped in Romford on Sunday night for a mapping session with a YB turbo guru based there. It was quick before but it's an animal now Great day out and I especially enjoyed putting a few more faces to usernames. Thanks to everyone who said hello to me

john123
Great Day out and very Chuffed to win a Trophy Too ! Thanks everyone . Unfortunately had engine failure on the way home , a valve spring broke into 3 in cylinder #2 and the valve has broken off in the head causing the engine to seize . Will get the head off on Tuesday and see how much damage has been done ...............Thanks to everyone that stopped to assist me . The AA chap was an Old Ford man so was very sympathetic !! i hope you get it fixed soon lovely motor
oldfordlover
Thanks ! Got the head off today and the valve was embedded in the piston ! Guess that will stop it turning..............! Piston is split in two. I've got a 2 spare Rover heads and V8 short block so will replace what's needed . I think I'll replace all the valve springs after this event with uprated ones . V8's take alot of time to rebuild so don't want this to happen again...............
Vista
Ouch, that looks painful. At least it won't be too costly if you've already got most of the parts you need and are doing the work yourself. For me your car was one of the stand out cars of the day. oldfordlover
Well it's been a while since the last update ...........Still a couple of small jobs to do but the engines back in the car and seems to run sweetly . />/> Since the engine died I obtained another 3.5 engine but after taking it apart it was apparent it had quite alot of bore wear so after a few quotes for a rebore etc decided to buy a reconditioned 3.9 block and +20 pistons from "V8 tuner" and swapped my crank etc with all new shells/bearings. Looking at the damage to the old block I had fitted several con rods the wrong way around . This only became obvious when my son said to make sure that if you use the old rods make sure the seized one is'nt bent . Well it was and in checking that I then saw that the con rods have a slight offset ,it's not very obvious about 1/8" , all I did when I dismantled the engine before was mark which way the bearing caps went and from which cylinder . This would cause piston slap and the damage was there to see in several bores . The demise of the engine was assured before the valve spring broke . Anyway after much research and a very helpful Paul at V8 Tuner all is well . It's the dimples on the rods that matter and they don't all point the same way ! For anybody rebuilding a Rover engine for the first time it is very antiquated and setting up the rockers is a nightmare . I ended up replacing all the rockers and shafts due to wear. When you read about all the things that can go wrong with this engine after fitting an uprated camshaft it's a little worrying and a lot of checks need to be made />/> Anyway a fullset of new valve springs and numerous other parts and everything double/triple checked before starting her up ! I've made an X pipe to balance the exhausts ,what a difference , everything sounds so smooth />/> And had some custom made Rockers made up as an Xmas pressy to myself. I've taken it around the block and i still think it needs a rolling road tune but that will have to wait till the weather improves . Happy Christmas and New year to all you Classic Ford Guys. Hope to visit some shows when the weather cheers up ?
