We say about not letting in the newer fords but I'd really like to see some of the older models joining in too. Anyone on here got something older than like zephyrs, consuls, pops, or import cars (America or Australia)????

The loss of the snobbery (for the most part) of 2dr Escorts over everything else helps as well.

Driven by price and availability people buy 4 dr cars, estates, vans etc now and they are no longer an "it'll do till I can get a 2dr" car.

Because are accepted. 

And where they are not the Club or meet or show is failing.......

 

I remember being asked to use the general publics carpark when I turned up at an RS show many years ago (I wont mention the club) in my 1600 powered Mk1 2dr escort but I was at a similiar show this year that warmly welcomed anything up to MK1 fiestas. And its growing.

We struggled this year to get local OSF peep's to come to local shows and meets, but I go to a lot of local shows and there are a lot of Escorts, Cortina's, Capri's, and the older Fords going, perhaps people prefer being 'privateers'.......

I love vans, estates and more doors the most as they are always so different. Went to a show a year ago an every car there was the same an standard. Maybe a set of minilites here an there but I like to see lots of different things at a show. People seem to still warrant doing something different weather it's engine, colour or style wise.

An I do love standard arches :-)

i see the rise of the turbo diesel mk2 2door scene soon. :gary:

cheaper to run.....non standard, so the rest of the car is cheaper to keep "non standard" too!......good torque "it is rwd"!

maybe the scene will evolve in strange ways? :Rock:

the scenes still strong in my opinion, loads of cars at meets, shows, tours etc, gives us a chance to escape real life for a while! spent loads on the car but that's all forgotten when I start it up(unless it wont start!)lol.. :-)

I've seen a LOT more osf's on the road over the last year or so. For example a bloke in my road hads a mk4 cortina and now he had a mk2 and a mk3 capri outside his house too. I often see a few escorts floating around both in Essex and Sevenoaks. There seem to be more on the road lately, although I've just never seen them at shows or forums. The scene is far from dead IMO.

I agree with the point that it's turning into an underground secret society. Guys are becoming more secretive and protective of their old Fords. 

I recently quizzed a local guy about his newly acquired mk2 RS, he's a friend of a relative of mine, and he went straight on the defensive, asking who I was, and how I knew about his car (he was already aware of my cars existence however). It's becoming ridiculous, you can't even stop and admire, or pass comment about them now without being suspected of trying to steal them. 

Some owners are just not prepared to take the risk of losing their pride and joy, by publicly showing them, or discussing them.

 

Sad times.

then what is the point of owning it.everybody knows theres a risk of your car being stolen

as the early cortinas .corsairs etc could be started with anything.but what about a simple

dead switch hidden away to cut it from being started.im not saying leave it out all night

or leave it parked in some secluded area.but the car deserves to be used.cars need to be

used.i may be wrong but i dont see the point of owning a classic car and not using it.keeping

it hidden away and not even telling anyone you ve got it.i have an old ford on the road.i use it

as often as i can i just take a simple few precautions as to where i park it.i even used to leave

it outside overnight and believe me i live in an area where everytime you close a window you

run the risk of trapping somebodys fingers in..i dont anymore not because of the thieving tossers

out there.but just because i dont have to.we ve all heard the saying "live life"well its the same

I havent seen an old skool ford apart from one cortina on the wirral near lpool/cheshire for the past 3-4 years :(
My escort will on the road from next month.. so looks like be travelling to meets out my area .. manchester way etc. its dead round here

is opel or vw scene gone

seem as alan said earlier as snobbery. lads build 50 and 60 k group 4 road rally cars or trailer queens are scooping every thing these days.

clubs don't mix and a lot of the scene I have noticed is closed or clicky.

I would prefer go for drive now with herself and kids in escort than attend a show where some asshole that spent 10's of thousands looks down on a standard car or some ones attempt at trying to save an old car be it ford opel vauxhaul vw or what ever.

maybe people are sick looking at the same car in rows and rows

mayb its time to get clubs to meet before it all goes pear shaped

What on interesting topic..... Although I've not been an active participant on the site for quite some time, it still looks pretty vibrant to me.

 

The only thing I would bemoan is the lack of OSFs on the road. The reason? I can't help think that if they were out and about more, then not only would there be more connection / interest / involvement from the public, but the more they'd wear out / rust. And, with necessity being the mother of invention, that would likely lead to people making parts and panels......

i rekion its all going well and very strong to be truthfull and for priceing, priices have gone up but their is still cars around that can be brought depends what you want and how much work you want to do to it,

 

lets see in the lase 3 weeks ive been offered a mk1 escort 2 door  project in good order, a corsair, mk2 tina, and a mk1 fezza and they were all the right price for what they are and condition,

 

for prices being hicked up you have ebay to thank for that one has every one is a car dealer or breaker now

I sold my Granada yesterday via an eBay classified advert and got what I class as 'Top' money for it. She now lives on the Isle of Wight. There are good genuine cars about at the right money but also some total dross!
