MK ONE MAD Posted December 9, 2013 Report Posted December 9, 2013 hi any help with the following been offered a shell with no v5 tag or plates but does have chassis number, is it possible to get v5 etc from it or am i just asking for a headache??
Admin Vista Posted December 9, 2013 Admin Report Posted December 9, 2013 It is possible, not sure it's easy though. Have you contacted DVLC about getting a V5C with just a chassis no?
mk2 mike Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 More importantly would you want a shell with no ID?
iandq Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 has it been imported? or is it dubious? if it's the former, you can build it up into a running vehicle, mot it ( on the chassis number ) insure it ( again on the chassis number ) and as long as you can prove it's age with help from ford or an approved owners club etc you can then register it with the dvla with an age related reg.number, this number then would not be transferable to any other vehicle. if it's the latter, dvla may well have records of it that could show permanently scrapped, stolen, insurance write off etc etc. best to contact dvla first and ask their advice. it may well be on the system and and a v5 could be issued for the standard fee ( following checks with the last registered keeper , they would normally write to the registered keeper and if no reply is recieved after a set timeframe they will issue new documents in your name ). if it's down as stolen then of course you will probably get a knock from the plod, hope this helps, cheers, ian. 1

MK ONE MAD Posted December 11, 2013 Author Report Posted December 11, 2013 thats the shell in question only has chassis number?
BigBubba Posted December 11, 2013 Report Posted December 11, 2013 I'm sure there's plenty mk1 and mk2s out there with different IDs than they were first registered with, a lot of the "genuine" cars we see probably started life as 1.1 pops. Not everyone is honest, and the practice was and still is common place unfortunately. Loads of cars with replacement strut tops etc have lost their IDs for good. All the strengthening bits can be easily sourced and retro fitted, as can VIN plates etc. Horrifying to think that the "mint" RS that was bought for top dollar, is actually a 2 door popular with an RS V5 and reg. 1
john_3.0s Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I've registered lots of old motorcycles and tractors which didn't have V5s (often been off the rd for years or never had them new). The DVLA rely on clubs (specific to your vehicle) to verify that the vehicle is what you are claiming then the DVLA will issue an age related plate - its all pretty straightforward. The DVLA have a list of the owners clubs which provide the services. The question is of course can you be sure its not been nicked? I don't imagine the DVLA would be diligent (care) enough to cross refer to VINs of registered stolen vehicles to chances are with a new reg you'd never know anyway. If you can satisfy yourself (morally!) its legit then id get in there, just because the log book is missing doesn't automatically mean its hookey 1
