I've bought the 170pc Halfords Socket set for £109.99 and want a couple of easy jobs to do on the Escort just to ease myself in.

I was thinking about lowering the car, good call for an easy start?

I was going to buy -2" front springs and 2" lowering blocks. Is it a relatively easy job to do the springs, the guide on here for the lowering blocks look pretty straight forward.

Any other easy but worthwhile jobs that I should have a crack at?

I read the Burton Mk1 guide and they said that polybushing the suspension is worthwhile. Is that straightforward?

What i'd really like to do is sort the brakes out but that might be a bit above my ability to start with.

Hope these aren't daft questions.........

Has anyone got pictures of cars lowered 2", is this about the right amount?

Thanks!!!

I started by lowering mine and swapping the front brakes to vented all pretty straight forward , just allocate 3 times as long as you think to get it done , and use plenty of penetrating fluid .

I have the same brake set up as you and the brakes don't have the feel of a modern car. First thing I would do is bleed them and then see how they perform.

Lowering wise, it's fairly easy to do, but expect your u-bolts to snap if they have been on for a long time.  Pic attached of my car that has been lowered 2".

I hope you don't have many speed bumps or a raised driveway, my lowered mk1 made me cringe every time the chassis rails scraped! LOL, good to hear you're getting stuck in.

Get some replacement axle u bolts ( the long ones for lowering blocks) the just cut your old ones off with the grinder if they are ceased on. Also go for braided hoses if you gonna replace them anyway as I always think they give better feel on the peddle as they flex less under pressure. If you get stuck post up on here and some one will be able yo point you I. The right direction!

Don't be afraid to get stuck in just make sure what ever you do is safe
