Muzzman Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 I've bought the 170pc Halfords Socket set for £109.99 and want a couple of easy jobs to do on the Escort just to ease myself in. I was thinking about lowering the car, good call for an easy start? I was going to buy -2" front springs and 2" lowering blocks. Is it a relatively easy job to do the springs, the guide on here for the lowering blocks look pretty straight forward. Any other easy but worthwhile jobs that I should have a crack at? I read the Burton Mk1 guide and they said that polybushing the suspension is worthwhile. Is that straightforward? What i'd really like to do is sort the brakes out but that might be a bit above my ability to start with. Hope these aren't daft questions......... Has anyone got pictures of cars lowered 2", is this about the right amount? Thanks!!!
bigbadsquare Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 I started by lowering mine and swapping the front brakes to vented all pretty straight forward , just allocate 3 times as long as you think to get it done , and use plenty of penetrating fluid . 1
Muzzman Posted December 31, 2013 Author Report Posted December 31, 2013 Mine has had a brake bias box and has no servo so I think its a big job to rectify, unless new disks, pads and braided hoses could do the trick
Muzzman Posted December 31, 2013 Author Report Posted December 31, 2013 Well the poly bush idea is out of the window after reading the recent post on here 1
DT36 Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 I have the same brake set up as you and the brakes don't have the feel of a modern car. First thing I would do is bleed them and then see how they perform. Lowering wise, it's fairly easy to do, but expect your u-bolts to snap if they have been on for a long time. Pic attached of my car that has been lowered 2".
Fiesta Steve Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 Go for lowering the car, not too much you can get wrong..
Muzzman Posted January 1, 2014 Author Report Posted January 1, 2014 Where should I get the springs from?

aardvark101 Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 Alright dude, you will need a set of coil spring compressors in order to change the fronts, i have a set you can borrow if you need them, im in Hockley. cheers Paul

Once i've ordered the springs i'll give you a shout and pop over
thrashermax Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 I hope you don't have many speed bumps or a raised driveway, my lowered mk1 made me cringe every time the chassis rails scraped! LOL, good to hear you're getting stuck in.
SmokeEm Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 As above, make sure you have new u bolts for the rear Other than that, it's quite straight forward if you are patient.
john_3.0s Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Get some replacement axle u bolts ( the long ones for lowering blocks) the just cut your old ones off with the grinder if they are ceased on. Also go for braided hoses if you gonna replace them anyway as I always think they give better feel on the peddle as they flex less under pressure. If you get stuck post up on here and some one will be able yo point you I. The right direction! Don't be afraid to get stuck in just make sure what ever you do is safe
theloudboy Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Alright dude, you will need a set of coil spring compressors in order to change the fronts, i have a set you can borrow if you need them, im in Hockley. cheers Paul Nice one paul I was gonna offer to borrow muzzman mine you beat me to it.
theloudboy Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 Well the poly bush idea is out of the window after reading the recent post on here You can get different hardness rating on the poly bushes it depends what you want
