thrashermax Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Up at 5:30, on a four hour train journey to buy an old Escort.. It's a RS2000 mk1 with 2.1 pinto, twin 40s and type9 5 speed. I'll be driving back from Wales later on today. It feels like xmas. The RS2000 is my dream car, wanted one since I was a kid. I've had a 911 before but I know the escort will make me feel a lot more special. Forget, Porches, Ferrari, Lamborghini... Mk1 Escort is king! Anyone else has stories about traveling to a car?
Admin Vista Posted March 1, 2014 Admin Report Posted March 1, 2014 All of the classics I've owned have involved a journey of some kind but the mk1 GXL capri (circa 1994) and the van (2009) were the most memorable ones. Both of those journeys involved my friend Mike (herb capri off here) and the latter one involved a marathon journey of nearly 24 hours from Cornwall to Essex and back. About 6 breakdowns on the M4 and M25 in his beavertail, culminating stacked 2 vehicles high on the back of an AA tow truck for the final leg. Hope your journey goes better, welcome to mk1 RS ownership and let's see some pics.
mikehunt Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 a close friend of mine went to s Africa on hols,he sore a mk1 escort in a church museum and had to have it so had to stay an extra wek to sort out the papers, his wife and kids went home a week earlier than him,
thrashermax Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 Brilliant stories there! I'm currently freezing my tits off writing for the third connection train! I once bought a Mustang off a guy in Ireland. We decided to meet at Liverpool docks... I had cash and was shit scared as I'm a little skinny wimp. 1
thrashermax Posted March 1, 2014 Author Report Posted March 1, 2014 Car insurance sorted by Clare from A plan, what a brilliant quote and service! On the train now to Cardiff! Be good to get the RS back in England, LOL.

Herr Doktor Posted March 2, 2014 Report Posted March 2, 2014 I traveled from Cardiff to Doncaster on the train with £12000 of used twenties to buy my Mk1. I only bought a single and the return price would have been £220. Consequently I bought the car
thrashermax Posted March 2, 2014 Author Report Posted March 2, 2014 What a journey back... the car is better than I expected. The ex owner is a true gentleman. He had the car for 7-8 years and completely restored underneath and the engine bay. It's running a 2.1 pinto on twin 40s with a type9 5 speed. Anyway, here's the pics! 2

thrashermax Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Thanks for all the comments guys... This is the car that I've always wanted from being a boy... my dream car. 5 years ago I bought a toy RS2000, 2 years ago my wife bought me a large RS2000 poster in the same colour, it's in our dining room... now I have the real thing! 'Doyle' Martyn, the seller, was so considerate. He picked me up from the train station, gave me a tasty posh coffee, drove me down to the Post Office to tax her then suggested I followed him to the motorway to make it easier for me. A real gentleman and a great car. He's spent many hours getting the engine bay looking gorgeous, building the engine etc... he also drove it to Le Mans and did the Lakes Tour in her. My general rule for buying is, if the car has been owned more than 3 years by the current owner and they are genuinely sad about selling it, the car must be good. Martyn owed the car for 7/8 years and was very sad to see her go. She's in good hands now. I love this car more than any other I've had!
