I was just looking to buy a new set of M16 calipers as it seemed better value than reconditioning old ones but when looking around online there appears to be a more than one manufacturer. I just assumed they were all made by girling. Some appear chunkier than others but it could just be the way they are photographed. One set seem to be Danish made. Are some better quality then others? I was going to space them for Capri vented disks but tried this many years back and the brakes went really spongy and on observation it appeared the calipers would flex slighly when spaced. I thought maybe have another attempt with new calipers see if i have more luck. Any input would be fantastic.

I'd say if you have the vented discs search out the genuine Capri calipers as these are made to fit and not spaced which can lead to a degree of flex

although fairly minimal otherwise it depends on how original you want to be with appearance?

Thanks for your reply. I never knew Capris had a redesigned caliper, I always assumed they were just spaced in the factory. An M16 set up will look fairly original spaced or not when its tucked within the wheel. Im not a stickler for absolute originality as long as its clean and neat and doesnt look overly modified.

Capri callipers on vented disks are spaced between the two halves. And the use a shim ring to with longer bolts to fit the leg.

Its the same on the M16 Granada 2.8 callipers. Same calliper but machined to take bigger brake pad. Fits Capri and so on to.

Granada calliper was also used on the Capri X-Pack and is a straight swap and upgrade on the regular M16 calliper.

Well - I live and learn! Who'd have thought Ford would bodge up a spacer as well!
