Admin Vista Posted May 10, 2014 Admin Report Posted May 10, 2014 Sorry if this has already been covered but i just need to clarify something. my car was built sept 72' which i believe makes it tax exempt (BBATME) i understand that you need to apply to make the car/logbook tax exempt and proove it with a letter from an owners club but if the rolling exemption applies will you still have to proove it or will it automatically become tax exempt? cheers Your car is already tax exempt. You only need to prove it with a letter from a recognised owner's club if it was built before but registered after the cut off date. If it was first registered before the cut off date all you need to do is send off the V5C to DVLA and apply for a change in taxation class to Historic Vehicle
escortmad79 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 The DVLA declined my application and have said they will need a letter from one of their approved clubs or Ford themselves. Just being fussy i think thanks for trying for me though mate. It was worth a go wasn't it If anyone needs to prove the build date of their car to the DVLA here is a link to their approved club list https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/list-of-vehicle-owner-clubs Maybe Oldskoolford can look into getting onto the approved list of clubs and then you could charge for the letter service to raise money for keeping the club going etc Go to a Ford dealership, they'll be able to confirm your build date & sort you out a letter
down2earth Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 I need a big favour I need to send off to register my camper as a historic vehicle. It is a October 1973 build date which i worked out from the chassis code of: NK using the burton power chart http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-manufacture-dates.html basically the dvla need something on headed paper from an enthusiasts club to say this is the case. If one of the admin can help me with this that would be brilliant as I cant seem to think of anywhere else i can get this sort of thing from. the vehicle is my 1974 Mk1 transit camper registration SNJ 141N with a build date of october 1973 from the chassis code of NK. I didnt know where to put this post so if it needs moving etc please feel free to do so. Thanks guys I needed to update the Taxation class on one of my vehicles last month being that is was also built October 1973...What I did was to first speak to the DVLA, the lady said to take your paperwork to the Post Office and they will be able to deal with it there. However when I did this they were not able to deal with it and told me I need to send the V5c back to the DVLA ! I contacted the DVLA again by phone and spoke to a chap there, when he asked for the Reg the chap said " I can see why they couldn't process the paperwork as you need to let us know the build date and have a recognised Ford club or the manufacturer confirm this in writing to us"...I assumed when this was done and the records were updated this is when I could get the free road tax. But what I did was to go to another local Post office with the same paperwork and try again...This time with success!! All I did was to give the guy there the V5c - He scanned it and said "It looks like I can change it to Historic on screen here (which he did), just write Historic in box 7 on the V5c then sign and date section 8 and give it to me to send back to the DVLA"... 2 minutes later I walked out with 12 months free tax...No build date letter required !!! I guess the previous P/O staff (and the Dvla chap) weren't as clued up as this guy...It was around a week and a half later when an updated V5c came through the door with the Taxation class now stating 'Historic.
paul groome Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 ive had all the same problems with the clowns at dvla..i got a letter from ford who confirmed my build date and is tax exempt and still they are messing me around. whats thebest option for me now?
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2014 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2014 Just to bring this one up again we have now been added to the DVLA's recognised club list so can offer this service to contributors to the forum. 2
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2014 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2014 Brilliant news!! Yes indeed, with a small word of caution though. We've yet to test the process properly so may still fall foul of some red tape or some jobsworth at the DVLA
HotRodMatt Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Surely once they've accepted a club that's it? At least you'd think it'd be that straight!!
katana Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Surely once they've accepted a club that's it? At least you'd think it'd be that straight!! You're using common sense again - national agencies don't work with that - its far to complex for them to comprehend! 1
Admin Vista Posted June 13, 2014 Admin Report Posted June 13, 2014 You're using common sense again - national agencies don't work with that - its far to complex for them to comprehend! Yep, this! /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ I'm sure there was someone earlier in this thread who said they had a letter from a recognised club and still they wouldn't play ball.
mk2 mike Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 On a similar (but different) note I need a valuation on headed notepaper for an agreed valuation with RH insurance. If I send one of you wonderful admin a full list of mods with a few pics you think I can have a quick note knocked up?
