impstan Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Visited a customer today and on there drive was a mk2 escort which I later found out to be a Linnet ltd edition. On speaking to the lady she told me it was her car and her husband was always going to do it up, but sadly passed away this year and she wants rid of it but only to someone who would RESTORE it not break it. I had a quick look round it and found the strut tops to have rust spots on but not rotten, drip rails bad, needs front wings, 1 door, 2 back arches but theres 1 new one in car. so really the normal stuff, its on the DVLA data base but says on there 2 ltr but its not, its got a kent in so presume 1.3. If you want to look at it message me. car is on Lincs / notts border 10 miles from Doncaster and Gainsborough. DN10 postcde 1
over_head_cam Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 I'd guess there are less Linnets than other models do well worth restoring.

iandq Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 i had a 4 door years ago ( moy 398 v i think it was ) it had bold multi coloured stripes on the side i think it may have been a linnet, but i have no pics of it to check, bought it as an mot failure for 50 quid, sold it about six months later at a boot sale for £150 ! that was about 1990/1, a good price then! 1

Admin Vista Posted June 7, 2014 Admin Report Posted June 7, 2014 Im not familier with this model, would you have any photos of your dads? The Linnet was one of three UK special edition model launched towards the end of the mk2 escort run, it wasn't much more than a 1300cc standard car with stripes and a few optional extras and was based on the Popular Plus. Goldcrest and the better known Harrier are the other two. Here's a Ford brochure for one but I'm pretty sure they came in other colours too 3

Ford Uk were definitely masters of striping. 1
martinmk2 Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 My mum and dad bought a harrier from renyolds ford back in the 80`s and i had just passed my test and was gonna be on the harrier insurance i could not wait .sitting outside their house wait for my go when they got home and they pulled up in a linnet i went mad telling them to return it ect. but as it wasx brand new i learned to love it and would not mind a linnet now in silver. 1
In The Pit Posted June 8, 2014 Report Posted June 8, 2014 What colour is the bodywork and interior? Do you have any photos? I could be interested. As mentioned here the Linnets are really rare now (as is the Goldcrest) much rarer than the Harrier. They also came in more varied specs than the Harrier and Goldcrest both of which only came in two colours. Two option packs were available on the Linnet to further upgrade them with things like sport steel wheels, vinyl roof & over riders from the Sport. The Linnet is one of my favourite models I think it has the best side stripes of all the MKII models. Well worth restoring to original spec.
djdavyb Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 I own a linnet. Mine was originally gold with the stripes. Since iv added my own spin. I have all the brochures at home if you want copy's .... Now Original

CortinaLover1971 Posted June 12, 2014 Report Posted June 12, 2014 Not very far from me that, only 2 mins drive. Any idea of the money she's looking for? After starting the Cortina I'd quite fancy another project once it's done. It's a bit addictive this car restoration lark.....always fancied an Escort! Plenty of garage space for another.... PM me more details please......
impstan Posted June 17, 2014 Author Report Posted June 17, 2014 Right all people who sent me their names and contact numbers as asked for, your details have been passed to the owner today so expect a call from her or her son soon. Price keeps popping up and I said it should be worth £ 500 or £ 600 as it is by what I can gather from price guides I can find
