Went to the gym today with my lad and parked next to his Fiesta. To think they were smaller than the Escort when they first came out...

That's why modern cars won't fit in garages built in the 60s/70s. It always surprises me when I take my mk2 out how much smaller it is than current 'superminis'

Haha, too true Mike. I can actually walk right round mine in the garage, even with benches, toolbox, bikes etc in there.

If I bring a family members car in for a bit of work I struggle a bit opening both doors.

i think all cars have gone up a size, fiesta is escort size, escort/focus is sierra/mondeo sized. All new clio/fiesta/207 etc are all bigger than their older brothers that i would sit in the back off as a kid in the 90's, rear seats were more for 2 kids than 2 adults

And supermarket car parks just get smaller...

You're not wrong there. I came back to my daily in a Sainsbury's car park at the weekend and despite my car being perfectly central, I could barely get the door open wide enough to get in. The other car was perfectly central too.

I was suprised to learn that the wheelbase of an original Ford Ka is 25mm longer than a mk1/2 Escort!!

The Ka(ck) has virtually no overhangs though so is still shorter overall.

Mental the difference in size, Mike.

OK, this week's challenge for members is to get a pic of your retro ride next to something modern and similar...
