Tackleberry Posted September 8, 2014 Report Posted September 8, 2014 Having just joined the ranks of OSF with the purchase of a mk3 Capri, I can never remember being this finicky about any car, certainly in my yoof!! Now replacing a screw, just because it's rusty, oh how times have changed... I'm lucky enough to have a garage at home for my new pride and joy. During the winter, I've got plenty to keep me occupied... Coolant system needs sorting, including new rad and hoses...some welding, new windscreen and rubber, side window seals, dash repair to sort a split, then time to spruce her up. New 4 branch manifold, Kent cam, lightened the fly wheel, locked diff, and a bigger twin carb... I'm like a kid in a sweet shop...!!! Looking forward to meeting OSF members at the shows...with the jolly farmer meet about 20 mins from me...plus get a chance to show off my lady... (4 wheeled one!). 3
over_head_cam Posted September 8, 2014 Report Posted September 8, 2014 I remember just being happy that my old Ford was running! 1
Tackleberry Posted September 9, 2014 Author Report Posted September 9, 2014 I grew up around Cortina's, Escort's and Capri's...of which I then had various models of all many years ago. Buying another Capri, it's like all my xmas' have come at once....I stand next to her like a proud dad on prom night... Think the wife is getting a bit jealous now though, but all she's gotta do is learn to weld, or a bit of spannering..simple. 1
accord83 Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 I remember being happy at finding a piece of wood floor boarding just the right size to stop the back of my Anglia seat sinking through the floor. I was easily pleased in my youth. Also getting MOT's over the phone. Happy days! 2
mk2xflow Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 mots over the phone yeh I remember that too back in the 80s
grantandlianne Posted September 9, 2014 Report Posted September 9, 2014 im relieving mine with my latest purchase .....bought as a project but already wishing I could be driving it 1
Tackleberry Posted September 9, 2014 Author Report Posted September 9, 2014 If only I'd appreciated my original cars as much..and obviously kept all of them!!
Danish Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 Oh yes, keeping them... my Dad scrapped his 1100 2-door F-reg Escort
deltamal Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 My car growing up was with sit up and beg Ford Pop's, cheap and very basic! being apprentice toolmaker I could make a lot of the spares myself, one of the best mods was drilling the main jet out with a number 55 drill, improved the performance loads! moved on to a Morris Isis (named after an Oxford river, not terrorists!) then a Mk2 Zephyr, wish I still had that one!
Admin Vista Posted September 12, 2014 Admin Report Posted September 12, 2014 I remember just being happy that my horse didn't eat too much 2
Tackleberry Posted September 12, 2014 Author Report Posted September 12, 2014 The first thing I'll be doing with mine is changing the axle bushes for poly..remember back in the day that every MOT required new bushes first...!! Although I'm expecting to be a little more gentle on the go go pedal.
mk2xflow Posted September 12, 2014 Report Posted September 12, 2014 sod taking it easy mash the pedal to the floor lol 1
Tackleberry Posted September 13, 2014 Author Report Posted September 13, 2014 Haha....you're probably right, only kidding myself!!! Not gonna put an obligatory paving slab or bag of cement in the boot though...
mk2xflow Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 yeh I used to put 2 bags of cement in the boot back in the 80s in the winter to aid traction in the Scottish snow roads , I mean the old cement bags that were twice the size of the ones now ,mind doing that you could steer it with one finger lol
luckyjim Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 lol in the late 70's I used to chuck 3 bags of cement in the boot of my consul capri to slam it for the Chelsea cruise.
