bigbadsquare Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Im looking at a mk1 escort on Saturday that was registered on the 1st April 1974, obviously the tax exempt date is manufactured prior to the 1st January 1974, but whats the chances it was made before 1st jan 1974. Thanks Paul
dalmarshall Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Pretty strong I'd say. It's build date will surely be a 73 date.........worst case it'll be exempt come April anyway
bigbadsquare Posted November 10, 2014 Author Report Posted November 10, 2014 But can you prove this , and how do you get it exempt?? Im sure somebody has tried .
Admin Vista Posted November 10, 2014 Admin Report Posted November 10, 2014 Pretty strong I'd say. It's build date will surely be a 73 date.........worst case it'll be exempt come April anyway If it was registered 1st January it will definitely have been built in 73, but registered 1st April 74 then unlikely to have been built in 73. Look in the "How to" room and there's a thread about determining your build date from your chassis number.
accord83 Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Mine was registered 14th Jan 1974, and build date was 7th Jan 74. So will not be tax free until April? next year.
iandq Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 don't pass it up because of the tax exempt date, the worst you will need to buy is six months, then after april 2015 it will be exempt anyway, cheers, ian.

accord83 Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 I followed a guide I found on a random internet search which told me.
Admin Vista Posted November 11, 2014 Admin Report Posted November 11, 2014 When will my september 1974 registered be exempt. April next year, the tax exemption cut off date should shift from 1st Jan 74 to 1st Jan 75 then.
windsor Posted November 11, 2014 Report Posted November 11, 2014 April next year, the tax exemption cut off date should shift from 1st Jan 74 to 1st Jan 75 then. Thanks .got it taxed till december .3 months out
Admin Vista Posted November 11, 2014 Admin Report Posted November 11, 2014 Stick another 12 months on it and you'll get a refund of the outstanding balance once you've sent off the V5c and registered it as a historic vehicle. remember that if you tax it for 6 months you don't get the additional admin fee back as part of the refund.
