daisy-lil Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Hi to all, I'm new to this site and I'm hoping to find some answers here and maybe a wee bit of sympathy??? I have always been an Escort fanatic ever since I passed my driving test in 1982, I have a passion for them like nothing else. Started of with a Escort MK1 then moved on to the MK2 Escorts, had a few bangers that didn't last long but my current 1978 MK2 GHIA 1.3 Iv'e had for 16years...just love it and have always took pride in looking after it to the best of my ability money wise, it's in very good condition, runs really well(will upload pics soon)and I use it as a daily car. Now here's the sad part....been having trouble with my eyes over the last couple years and was told only 2 weeks ago from the big man at the eye hospital...As from now no more driving!!!! devastated or what!!! anyhow I'm still coming to terms with this condition and the situation about what do I do with my beloved Escort, it's soon due it's MOT and service and Insurance renewal so do I put on SORN till I can get my head around all of this, do I sell it? and if I do I want it gone... never to be seen again, I have had a few offers from family and friends but it would be too painful for me to see it in and around Nottingham. Please can any member advise, I'd be grateful
grantandlianne Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 sorry to hear of your sight issues that must be really hard to accept, what about keeping it and maybe taking it to shows or the occasional track day( some dont ask for licence ) so you still have the chance of using it on occasions, its a lovely car
stuartp Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 it's a beaut! I can't imagine adding to the bad news of your eyesight with the loss of your beloved car is going to help you feel good Unless money is a big issue I reckon keep hold of it. There's no real hurry to sell as far as I can see. I think I'd keep mine even if I had to be wheeled out and just be able to touch it
Admin Vista Posted November 25, 2014 Admin Report Posted November 25, 2014 Welcome to OSF, your car looks lovely. I imagine after 16 years it'll be a wrench to sell it.
mk2 mike Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Welcome mate. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I say keep it for a while too. Can someone else drive you to shows? At least you'll still get some enjoyment from it. Car looks lovely and original.
Blimey Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Keep it and get famiky to drive yiu around sorry about tge eyesite,Whi knows maybe it can be fixed one day
irishtorag Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 X 3 I know its not same as driving yourself but plus side is you continue to smell the vinyl from the interior and hear the xflow chatting away in every gear kenny
RIKB80 Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 That's terrible news, but if you love it, and it's not getting in the way then keep it, you see on the news loads about advances in eye treatments. Also if you get as much enjoyment out of keeping up with the car and working on it, there's nothing to stop you still doing that, then enjoying the chauffeur driven service on your way to shows etc. 1
Lizzy Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 Never give up - RIKB80 is right - there are continual advancements in the treatments available; it's amazing what they can do from one year to the next. You belong with that car - lovely photo of you with her! 1
