Herr Doktor Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 The front and rear seats in my '68 Mk1 Escort 2 door are in A1 excellent condition. Black vinyl with a woven/perforated effect with fronts that tilt forward. For crimbo my Mrs is paying for a full leather interior [front and rear seats, door cards, rear cards and headlining] I have already sourced a set of XR3i front Recaro seats to get reupholstered as I find them to be more comfortable. My question is a simple one; Should I have my current rear ones re-upholstered or continue with my search to find a set of rear ones I can upholster then put the rear ones in storage with the fronts. So far, my hunt for rear Mk1 2 door seats has been fruitless. Regardless of condition As they're in such great condition I'm somewhat loathed to have them reupholstered but can't find any others to have reupholstered She's struck a deal with the upholsterer such that we have it all done in one go. Job lot so to speak else I'd have had the fronts done and left the rear as-is until able to find others suitable. Feedback greatly appreciated as I know rear seats are nigh on impossible to find. Let alone in the condition of these!! Cheers Keith
Admin Vista Posted December 31, 2014 Admin Report Posted December 31, 2014 Tough one. At the end of the day, it's your car so if you really want the leather look all round and can't find a spare rear to have done then have the current rear done to match, but ask the trimmer to remove the existing vinyl covers carefully so that they can be re-used if required.
katana Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 How different are mk1's to mk2's? I've a back and base from a mk2 RS that need a recover? 1
Herr Doktor Posted December 31, 2014 Author Report Posted December 31, 2014 Vista I hear what you're saying but is feels almost sacrilegious to mess with them. They're 46 years old and in excellent condition. Before I had the car, the PO said it came to him with a plastic protector sheet over the seat. I have no qualms about storing them I just can't seem to find anything else. I even went down the Alfa GTV seat route as I read somewhere they fit. They fit in so much that they "fit" into the space. They sure as hell don't "fit" in the true sense of the word! Katana, I have no idea whether Mk1 and Mk2 2 door rear seats are inter changeable. Maybe somebody else can shed some light on it please? Cheers Keith

I seem to remember that my brother has some stored away. What sort of money were you prepared to pay ? It might be easier to respond to my email westmoorsmotorcompany@hotmail.com regards Rob
