Anthiron Posted January 22, 2015 Report Posted January 22, 2015 Hi Guys I started a newbie post a few weeks ago but thought I would put up some more info about my car. It is a 1970 MK2 Cortina 440, Origionally a 1600 Kent powered car. - 2L Pinto motor running RS2000 escort exhaust header, twin 45mm DCOE webers with polished velocity stacks, Ivan Tighe 989 cam, Mech only Dissy - Escort English diff and rear end - T5 Borgwarner 5 speed gearbox (From an Aussie Ford Falcon), modifed single rail bellhousing and running a custom HD Exedy clutch. (Converted to cable) - MK2 Escort front disc brakes with slotted and drilled rotors - Nolathane bushes throughout - Lowered 4" - Battery relocated to boot - Performance Superlight Machined wheels 13"/6" 13p front and 23p rear - Early Mk2 GT Dash and gauges - Genuine Nardi 350mm wheel - GT badges - Cobra classic low buckets (Just fitted, still need to remove the brackets and dissasemble for powdercoating) I keep forgetting to take a new picture of the engine bay, It is a bit different now, I have fitted a nicer washer bottle away from the hot side an oil catch can and neatened things up. 1

The car is far from perfect but it makes a nice driver car and has minimal rust even for an Aussie vehicle. I have found some Bumperettes for the front which I will be picking up and fitting when I am back home from work in 2 weeks, Also have a few bits a pieces for the engine bay on their way from Burton Power.
Anthiron Posted January 25, 2015 Author Report Posted January 25, 2015 After opinions on whether I should have the bumpers and grille/headlight surrounds powdercoated gloss black? It is quite a modified car so being stock looking isnt really a priority. I can see it in my head as being tasteful but open to opinions.
Admin Vista Posted January 25, 2015 Admin Report Posted January 25, 2015 If it's fashionable in Oz then why not........but I prefer the bright work to be bright myself
Anthiron Posted January 25, 2015 Author Report Posted January 25, 2015 If it's fashionable in Oz then why not........but I prefer the bright work to be bright myself TBH I would have no idea whats fashionable. Something like this but with Bumperettes
Admin Vista Posted January 25, 2015 Admin Report Posted January 25, 2015 By bumperettes you mean 1/4 bumpers?
Anthiron Posted January 25, 2015 Author Report Posted January 25, 2015 Yes, Aussie style GT QTR bumpers
Admin Mk2Jo Posted January 29, 2015 Admin Report Posted January 29, 2015 Love it ... very nice indeed!
cortina mk2 Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 very nice work what's the pinto engine like with the falcon gearbox
mark reed ford Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Very nice I like the wheels to they suite the car very well, I must say it looks great without the bumper. It might look good with spot lights, not sure if the type on my 1600E would do though, probably Cibie's would look the best.
Anthiron Posted February 5, 2015 Author Report Posted February 5, 2015 very nice work what's the pinto engine like with the falcon gearbox The Pinto and T5 is a great combo. 1st to 4th are very usable gears and 5th I use for highway runs. I have put a deposit down on a MK1 Escort so it looks like I will have to sell the Cortina unfortunately. I will be swapping the seats, wheels, Carbies and a few other bits and bobs onto the new car before I sell. Id love to swap the gearboxs But im not sure if I want to cut the MK1 tunnel up.
