S c o o b y Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 Hi I recall about twenty years ago my mate built a 2.0 litre pinto bottom end with a 1.6 head as he said the valves on a 1.6 head are bigger than a 2.0 litre head is this right all I remember is the car was really quick as in it got stolen and the police couldn't catch it in a scenitor police car . Just after abit of info really if the 1.6 does have bigger valves or not ? Thanks for any info .
John escort mk1V6 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 It can be that you get a higher compression , due a smaller compression chamber , but the inlet valve and outlet valve are smaller from 1600 ohc also the ports than a 2000 ohc. If you got a 1600gt or 1600s that one got the same inlet valve as a 2000 and a bigger inlet port. And these one`s have also a faster cameshaft.

Maybe could of been that then I just remember him showing me the heads and the 2.0 litre had small valves and the 1.6 had big valves maybe it was a gt head , it was a pig to start as in didn't turn over very fast but when running. Was ok just a shame it got stolen as they blew it up so didn't last long either .
John escort mk1V6 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 Normal are the valve`s from a 2000 ohc bigger than a 1600 ohc the 1600 gt and 1600 s have the 2000 inlet valve , so not bigger than a 2000. But may be there same work done at that head ?

John escort mk1V6 Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 That`s a good question , but i don`t think so , if i am right are those piston`s shorter ?
S c o o b y Posted March 4, 2015 Author Report Posted March 4, 2015 That`s a good question , but i don`t think so , if i am right are those piston`s shorter ? Well you have answered my question anyway thank you ! I won't need to put a smaller head on a 2.0 litre bottom end then just thinking in the future maybe dropping the 1.3 cross flow and putting a 2.0 pinto in instead . Bloody frank Kelly's fault just been watching him in is mk2 escort McRae stile

Snapper Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 The 1.6 head was used to increase compression but you needed to unshroud the valves or compression to high 2.0L head has 50cc chambers 1.6 has 38cc chambers so a straight swap gets you 11.5 to 1 Pistons are marginal at 10.5 to 1 and Super unleaded is ok at 10.8 to 1 Conclusion is that the 1.6 head is more trouble than it's worth The 2.0L Pinto injection head is better than a carb head due to higher inlet port angle and smooth inlet port to valve seat shortside turn, fit this with a thin gasket and a light skim, a decent cam and better carbs you should see over 130bhp 1

Sounds like a plan

deltamal Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 I had a 1.6 head on my 2.1 OHC, it's an old banger racers method of getting more power from the smaller head combustion chamber, the head was sorted a bit with bigger valves springs, cam and twin throttle bodies it made 171 brake at the flywheel! 2
Snapper Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 The injection heads have egg shaped inlet ports at the manifold face, early ones were leaded but I've only seen unleaded R,P rf L top left of exhaust manifold face denotes unleaded hardened exhaust valve seats 1

I bet that must of been what he did then cus it was quick but you needed a good battery to turn it over cus of the compression . This was in a mk4 cortina bolted to a 1600 gearbox and diff so can only imagine what it would go like in a mk2 escort
