gtrjazz Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 Hello all I am thinking of getting back into a Cortina Mk 2 again my first car was a series one 4 door 1600GT but I crashed it boot over bonnet on the A13 Southend to Leigh section It did get rebuilt by me but using a series 2 1300 auto shell £30 from Kirbys the breakers yard,I did not use the ID for the GT I still have the VIN plate number plates and log books safe in a box Lol Next was a Granada 3.0 GXL which was hit up the back while going to work in the snow by a mk 5 Cortina The Cortina fell to bits but I was able to continue to work but the Granada was a total loss on the insurance for the third time in its life as it also had two under bonnet fires before I brought it A few months with a Red 1300 GT Escort which I did not like lucky for me my mum wanted it and she drove it for quite a few years Next was a Yellow Cortina Mk 3 1.6 GT not sure of the thinking behind Ford making this as 2.0 GXL was a faster car This one ended when the number 1 bus pulled out on me I got past but he pushed me into another car instead of stopping Nice ! Then I had a 3.0 Capri mk 3 with big valve heads and hepolite pistons that flew and also did not get crashed but sold on to someone I worked with After that a 1600 GT Mk 3 Capri the idea was to save fuel, I also put origanal Dunlop wheels on it by getting the rear half shaft diameters reduced (Made it hard to aline the rear drums) I also sold this car on 1

PeteRS8084 Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 Hi, oh the joys of the old days on the A1 and A127, of course all before average speed cameras! Pete
khanlad Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 Welcome, the start of the intro makes you sound like a 1 man wrecking machine, nice to know some survived!
gtrjazz Posted May 5, 2015 Author Report Posted May 5, 2015 The late 70s were not a good time to be a future classic the A13 was wider and the police had to follow you in their car for a set distance to get a speed reading . Police cars of the time were mini vans the odd escort Mk 2 and a Rover 3500 Not many stopped for the minis Southend police did do a very good job though and if anyone did get a fine they deserved it , I was let off a fair bit and fined twice The seafront was used like a circuit late at night and people would stop the traffic in all directions to watch Guess if you look at all the road changes in the area since they were all put in place to stop this Much better now days with a lot more track access I have been to Brands Hatch many times Would pop along but I have a R32GTR at the moment could always park at the back I guess as it would be good to see your cars 1
