Is it worth to come over and vissit.

I have 3 weeks holliday as the company is closed for 3 weeks. I have nothing planned and nothing to do........ basicaly..

I am sorting out my '74 Mercury Capri now which broke down at our trip to the Classic Ford Show and we are almost done, rebuild diff ( satelite wheels issues ) and another propshaft is work in progress and should be all sorted tomorrow.

Need some time away from home with my wife and consider comming over with my '74 Mercury Capri to vissit this event. Stay at a campsite near Banburry and have a good few days of enjoying Britain.

So whats all about this event. Do I need extra locks on my Capri. Is it worth the ticket price... and so on.

Best regards JP & Linda

I haven't been to it but would also be interested as we talked, albeit only briefly, about having an OSF stand there instead of Ford Fair this year. It's still an option for next year too.

I went a few years ago and would definitely go again. It's a massive massive event which covers all sorts of motorsport. Very highly recommended if you like old race and rally stuff.

So, just booked and looking forward to it.

Booked the Retrorun tickets which will include 3 day event tickets, Infield parking for 3 days... and a 70mile route on Saturday with a tulip style roadbook. Have no clue what that is. Would be interesting for us as Dutch.

Test drove the Capri today with its newisch diff and propshaft. Found some alternator bearings shot which will be sorted tomorrow when shops are open. We both are again not confident about the car as it let us down on any occasion for visiting Britain with this car the last two years. On any other European destination it just goes fine...

Take a vissit to Escort-Tec on the way in on Wednesday.

So next week, a green mk1 facelift Capri, blue vintage Dutch license plates should be entering the British grounds and mostly around Banbury, Silverstone area.

Well ferry tickets & Silverstone tickets are booked, a visit to Escort-Tec is planned. Capri seems to be ready. Only thing that could stand in our way is the ferry.

Seems to be lots of issues again at the harbour of Calais. Ferry is sailing but with delays. Motorways are blocked by burning tires from un satisfied harbour personnel.

We just leave at night and see what will happen.  Cross fingers Ill enter UK soil ( Dover) at 0815 tomorrow morning.

Thats a €650 two way ticket while Calais is a €170 two way ticket. Not even the fuel makes up for that.

Second StenaLine personel anounced they would strike also from today as they want more money.

What actualy happened today..... We got a text mesage from ferry operator P&O at 0100am this morning to expect a 100 minuts delay. We left 0215am and came in early at Calais and 15 minuts later we where on the ferry sailing of. Much more ealyer than booked.

Went to Escort-Tec to collect a propshaft and are now on a campsite near Banbury enjoying the British weather.

Ouch, taking my car over to France next week and the fare is similar to your Harwich / Hook of Holland figure. £650 return Plymouth / Roscoff. I thought about driving up to Dover / Calais but as the place I want to end up is just 90 minutes East of Roscoff, it wasted a lot of time en route.

Went to Silverstone Classic on the sunday (knowning it was going to be a good chance of rain)

The main reason for going was the super tourer race, waited & waited, got very wet, & waited 7 waited , no announcement, waited more , got even wetter.

After over two hours delay in the programme we got on the shuttle service to the main gate, got in the car & drove home with a/c flat out trying to dry us out.

Never did get to see that race !

Well it was anounced there was a delay. There wasvso much water on the track the pace car would around several times to investigate when they and if they could race. That was about 3pm.

After an hour or so I was done waiting and soaking wet to and expected them not to race anyway as it had not stopped raining to dry up the track somewhat so we went back to the Capri and drove back to the campside.

Must say. Both Capri GAA's had withdrawn from the race on sunday, guess by rain. Zakspeed Escort, Weslake Capri and Gordon Spice Belga Capri where been prepared to race with full wet tires.

Overal we had a good weekend. Friday was lots of rain to but they atleast where racing.

Saturday we had the Silverstone Classic Retrorun (70mile trip) and very nice westher. At twelve we arived at the circuit to see the races.

We had a good time and will definedly do it again.

Today the big trip back to Holland.

See it on the bright side... We could just stayed home.... and just see nothing while it was raining and storming too. But nice warm and every comfort you want to, so like home......

Or just take the adventure, drive 1111 miles with a Capri you don't trust at all cause it failed you at several attempts to go to the UK.

Make something out of it raining or not. Meet nice people you never met before. Do groceries every day at the superstore to make your own decent meal every evening.... ( no fridge in the tent off course ).

The 70 mile Retrorun on Saturday was a great experience we would do again.

And this time the Capri only gave some small blimp's. After some full throttle situations, coming out of boost, the engine stalled and bugged to keep running for a few seconds...  On the way back in Belgium and in Holland it didn't do that at all ?????????? Only in the UK ?? ( Turbocharged, carburetted Cologne 2.6 V6 ) .

Did surprise a Lotus Esprit as he couldn't shake me of on every attempt he made. on the way in to Silverstone.... while I even was trying to keep my engine running every time I came out of boost at the roundabouts... He must have thought.... whats that Capri mk1 facelift all about...

Things to never forget, we would not experience when we stayed home.

By the way, bought a brolly for a tenner and a typical English flat Cap for some more and I just blended in...

Way back without any fuzz. By the slight WiFi connection we had on the campsite ( 1 dot ) we figured out Dover Port was a nightmare by traffic delays form the M20. Operation Stack from Kent Police was also operational and while just listening to traffic information on the radio we managed to drive all around it ( AA map ) and arrived two hours early at the ferry and could drive on it immediately. Left 0815 am UK time at Banbury, arrived home in Holland 16.45 pm UK time.

Never touched the whole tool cabined I brought with me these 7 days.
