PeteRS8084 Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 So I figured, eventually, that you should really have a decent sized set of cibies, and my first ones although close to standard ford spotlight size really did not set the front off. So after a few weeks trawling around flea bay and scum tree I found a set of french made 7" cibie oscar +. They were duly dispatched, upon arrival they really did need a total refurb, along with new bulbs as they were not working. So a total strip down, clean the lenses, rub down all the components, 3 coats of grey primer, 3 coats of satin black and 3 coats of clear lacquer. Sparkly like brand new. New bulbs fitted, now fully working, and finally new covers. Total cost well under £100. Happy bunny! So from this: To this: 3
colr6 Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Now you have the parking lights sorted are you going to put some real lights on? Lol. Don't over do it with 2up 2 down, don't think it suits the mk2 looks spot on as it is! 1
PeteRS8084 Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 I had 2 up 2 down cibie oscar and super oscar, all wired in, on my mk1 v6 in the early 90s. And after changing in the alternator to keep up with the outage I figured this time that too is enough, even with the standard 55w bulbs! And also the ones on mine now are the oscar + with the flat back, so they fit on the standard mk2 brackets, unlike the normal bowl backs that need an after market bracket. 1
colr6 Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Think the 2up 2 down suit the mk1 but not the 2 as you say alternator change to keep up with them, more money. If you need that many lights to see where you are going got to be cheaper to go to spec savers for some glasses !!!! 2
Snapper Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Unless your rallying you won't have them on with the main beam long enough to worry the alternator that much That said the Escort had a 45amp there is a 55Amp and a 70 Amp that should fit
Danish Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 That said the Escort had a 45amp there is a 55Amp and a 70 Amp that should fit On my Cortina I fitted a 90 amp Scorpio alternator. Plenty of power for the four Hella Rallye 2000s.
PeteRS8084 Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 Well I have not had to upgrade the alternator as I am only running the two spotlights this time.
Admin Vista Posted July 25, 2015 Admin Report Posted July 25, 2015 +1 on preferring the full two up two down on a mk1 (but mine are fogs / spots so I only have 1 pair on.at a time) but on a mk2 less is more. Rather than adding spots, for the van I chose to upgrade the headlights themselves. 1
mk2 mike Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 As above. I put 2 up 2 downs on my mk2. I took them off a week later. I think they only suit mk1s too
PeteRS8084 Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 Well in my humble opinion it's each to their own..........but my mk2 will stick with 2! 2
khanlad Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 On a flat front mk2 i like none, two and four, so of no use what so ever. Looks better with the cibies than the other lights. 1
PeteRS8084 Posted July 25, 2015 Author Report Posted July 25, 2015 The other lights were cibies too.........just the new versions, but too small, said the nun to the vicar! 1
khanlad Posted July 25, 2015 Report Posted July 25, 2015 Cibies have to be oscars, or super oscars, anything else just isnt cibie! 2
PeteRS8084 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 Damn right, just took me time to realise. ............must be an age thing, or a money thing! Anyway it's a thing
colr6 Posted July 26, 2015 Report Posted July 26, 2015 It'll be an age thing started off with small cibies then to oscars then it will super oscars then if you can still get them super bi-oscars Just admit it your getting on and need GLASSES. Ha Ha 4
PeteRS8084 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 So true! Binoculars or a telescope

PeteRS8084 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Report Posted July 26, 2015 Great covers lol, you must have an upgraded alternator if you have those all wired in?
