gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 Ok I plan on putting a 2.0 pinto I have lying around into a non ford. What considerations do I have to think about such as angle of engine. to make life easier I'm just going to install a type 9 aswell to mate to the prop? thanks
gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 I really don't want to say it's embarrassing… A lada riva
colr6 Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 From what I can remember the riva had quite a tall engine anyway so height should not be a problem, basically do a dry fit with box then check clearence for exhaust near chassis, carb should high enough to clear inner wing. Then it's just clearence for rad might have to cut bulkhead, just remembered weren't they on steering box not rack and pinion if so sump clearence on arms from lock to lock.
gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 That was going to be my next question If I have to modify a sump what factors do I have to take into consideration such as capacity
colr6 Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 Try and keep capacity the same or you could go a bit more pay particular attention to pick up pipe position
gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 Same And to a lada with 2.0 on webers would surprise a few people 1
colr6 Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 Be even better left standard on the outside lol
gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 I plan to Here she is 1 owner 11.000 miles
colr6 Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 Must have mudflaps on and I've been to clacton seaside stickers in rear window!!!!
gwtaylor22 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 I did have this in mind though
khanlad Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 I like that, mate of mine looking to do tbe fiat looking version
colr6 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 You would lose element of surprise making it look sporty,no where near as much fun!
PeteRS8084 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Get an old Fiat twin cam in their, they are sort of the same body she'll. And yeah scare the pants of the saxo brigade!
gwtaylor22 Posted August 23, 2015 Author Report Posted August 23, 2015 I was going to go old twin cam but there pretty hard to find now as they do just literally drop in aswell
colr6 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Think it was the 131/2 supermirifori or something like that. Did hear they were try to re use that type of engine for some form of Motorsport but like you say try finding them! 1
gwtaylor22 Posted August 23, 2015 Author Report Posted August 23, 2015 Just been reading a few threads and it seems the only real option I have is that twin cam due to clearance issues with steering box. Is it a mamouth task to change from box to rack?
colr6 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 From what I under stand of steering geometry is,as long as the ball joints on the rack are exactly the same distance apart as inner suspension arm mounting points then you shouldn't suffer with bump steer. Then it's just a case of making everything else up,length of track rods/ column etc. adding to that as long both inner and outer pivot points work in the same arc should not be a problem. There will be some one on here who knows geometry and Mr Akerman to advise!!!
PeteRS8084 Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Colin your on the money with that Fiat. ........trust you to remember the correct model and name! Spotter
mk1del Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 What about zetec route ,could do front or rear sump pan ,much easier than trying to find fiat twincam, bda style rocker cover, better wheels and slightly lowered, 1
