Until someone's actually used one or seen one in the flesh, with the relevant expertise. We're in the dark. And if the qualities ok, there's no reason why people shouldn't re shell there rotters. It's been happening with mg,s and minis for ever.

they are bl or heritege made/approved

You might have thought the suppliers or importers would done some groundwork on the views of the dvla to use as a selling point? Or have they and won't tell because it's not good news?

its up to buyers to make sure their car is legal not the body suppliers no law against making it or selling/buying the rules are for road use all they have to do is give a receipt saying for off road use only and no problrms the same as racing tyres with not for road use written on them

Would say most people will be looking at these for resto purposes, so to me it would be a big plus before parting with my cash if some info was given regarding difficulties or not of using this product for that purpose not after you've bought it ' not for road use' got to be a good selling point? Or are they hoping ignorance prevails.

Its my opinion that very few of these will make it to the road as resto road cars - the fact that they would be illegal if transferred chassis numbers and reg. plates was done and can't imagine anyone wants to go through a full IVA and get a Q plate unless everything is new which would then get a 2016 - on plate. They have been developed and ordered from China by a Rally Car Preparation company as a cheaper route to provide Mk2 Escort rally cars. Currently you spend £4 - 5k buying something rotten or £8 - 9k half decent and have to rip it to bits and / or weld the crap out of it just to get a decent base to build a comp. car. This shell is new metal, no panels needed so only rally prep required which would have to be done anyway. If used in the UK they have to be road legal (unless used wholly off road) so will have to endure a IVA and be Q plated but if you are knocking 10k off the price of a car build? who's complaining?

As some have mentioned the crash testing part is worrying. ...has it been done and is it up to standard. ....imagine taking your kids out in your newly rebuilt shell and getting in a rear ended or a head on smash

No ones actually going to iva them! People will just re shell them from rotters.

Can't be any worse than some of the lash togethers out there.

Just look at Colin's cortina.

You buy an old snotter, it needs new wings, inner wings, front panel, you do repairs on the door panels, new rear arches, maybe a rear quarter? Replace the floor, don't want a patch work quilt! New boot floor, both Wells each side, you want it nice so you replace the rear panel too, old one a bit nasty. Your fitting a type 9 so you put a bigger tunnel in it, a bit lighter so you fibreglass boot bonnet and doors! Where do all these panels come from? Same Chinese factory making the shell panels? Who's to say the China man welding the shell together is an less competent than your man welding his together in his shed ? How many times did the works escorts change identity through there lives? Ok they used genuine shells but again who's to say Fred blogs at Halewood is any better with a spot welder than Mr China? How would any old fords or anything old stand up in a crash test? Would imagine the people most upset would be the ones with a pile of old junk sat on a drive or in a field that thought it was worth big money suddenly finding out its not?

Blimey everyone was chomping at the bit when news of new shells came out, now it seems a lot are putting these new shells down due to iva or whatever and build quality. I guess the guy who pumped 10's of thousands of pounds into this scheme didnt do any homework or check the quality of the company making them at all and just hoped they turned out ok? Do you really think he did that? Just turn up at some random Chinese backstreet shed with a couple of guys in flip flops wielding dollys and hammers and ask if they can knock up a few shells? Its meant for reshell-no one needs to know apart from a potential buyer. Most will be for rally cars anyway I guess. And crash testing ha when did Ford bother with that? I'd imagine they are stitched together better than 75% of the escorts on the road now. For those with the money it appears to be a no-brainer.

as soon as you put a non original/different tunnel in you need iva anyway same as cutting the bulkhead to change it from original

I'd have to make 2 trips, can't live without my chorizo ! Hi, my names Paul and I'm an addict! My fuel bill would go through the roof, I'd have to sell one of my kids? The Mrs would go mad, it wouldn't be good? I'll have to keep the extra doors
