Daytona76 Posted December 13, 2015 Report Posted December 13, 2015 HI there Old Skool Fordies......... First car (well Van actually) was a 105E in 1974 reg 923 KGB......... which went to the scrappie after 2yrs for £25 after it major failed its MOT Then in 1976 it was a 1968 MK2 Cortina Super 1600 in Silver Fox, reg TOY 850F which I modified and customised, eventually going to my brother who wrote it off.......... Then 1981 got married and persuaded the new missus to have an 105E Anglia which we then replaced with an Orange MK2 Escort when the 2nd born arrived.... Fast forward to 2001 bought a MK2 Escort 1300GT for the now eldest son and we had lots of great father / son restoration and modifications going on whilst he used it as his daily car. After he did a tour of Iraq in 2005 he sold it to fund a round the world trip of a lifetime...... and ever since we kept saying " Wish we'd never sold that old escort..." So a few weeks ago, Ebay provided us with another MK2 Escort and we are now back in the game again............ Its an imported LHD 2dr Swedish MK2 german built Dec 75 example with a 2.0 pinto that's running and driving so the plan was to get it sorted enough for an MOT and get it registered, then have some fun, then modify it a bit more..... but we've got impatient already and gone straight to the full modify bit......... well it wont be on the road till the spring anyway so what the heck !! So here is a Day 1 photo of the 'new' escort and the second is up on the stands in the garage as of Friday.......... last picture is our 'old' MK2 the day it was sold in Fishguard and driven over to Ireland.......... 2
khanlad Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Welcome to osf, what happened then, took one bit off......then another.......then a bit more, turned around............and oh! 1
Daytona76 Posted December 14, 2015 Author Report Posted December 14, 2015 Well yeah sort of happens that way doesn't it..... the plan was to do the bare minimum now to get an MOT but even that turned into quite a long list so no point in doing things in half measures. Basically its replace or refurbish all the braking, fuel and suspension components (whilst doing the latter you may as well lower it at the same time), sort out the cooling system as the Swedish rad was too small and there was no fan, fit Lumenition for improved start / spark, change headlights to UK RHD and fit a washer bottle/pump...... it'll all be done by Xmas !!
colr6 Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 The worst thing I bought was an angle grinder with a cutting disc! Starts off been a simple rebuild with a few improvements. Then it's deep breath a bigger cup of tea! A cossy will go in there T5 box another hole! Atlas at the back oh 4 link it while we're under here on and on and on oh what fun 3
Daytona76 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Report Posted December 17, 2015 That's exactly how its gone. Been off work for a small illness for some 6 wks now and the list of mods and parts is getting bigger and bigger......... I found the worst tool was an air chisel... ! That cut through bodywork like a knife through butter........... I've just finished restoring a 69 Camaro and this was the state of it after two days with an air chisel I think the Escort will be a bit easier...........
