105Nick Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 The Ford A series? There was one of these outside a bungalow in the middle of nowhere near me for years. There's a cool pic in the gallery of a D series, A series, Mk1 Transit and Mk1 Escort Van, and a D series. Can't be many left now. http://www.fordaseries.co.uk/index.html
orionmojo Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 nope, but up until 3 years ago my dad ran a D series flatbed
john_3.0s Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 there was one down this way until about 6 months ago, silver one with a tilting car bed on the back and saw it with a 2 dr cossie on it now and again but not for a while now
60ftman Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Used to drive an A series recovery truck back in the 80's.
105Nick Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 My dad used to drive one of these for our little local garage years ago, before they replaced it with a Bedford TK. The guy told me they scrapped it a couple of weeks back, but I'm sure I can see it in a hedgerow out back, where its been sat since the 60s. Its remarkably surving quite well, as it hasn't been cared for. Its a 1942 Chevrolet M6, used to tow trailers loaded with bombs to B17s in the war, and has a hoist on the back with open cab. The one in the garage has all original markings and paint visable, but weather beaten, with wooden garage sign on the roof and a home made crane and hand winch! They wouldn't sell it, rather it rot there.
V8ian Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Are there any A series Transits left, they rotted quicker than 60s Fiats, I borrowed one to pick up a car and had the clutch go on me, ever tried removing a gearbox from the back of a 6cyl Perkins Diesel on your own, its the biggest gearbox I have ever removed from a vehical, everything is 10 times as heavy as it needs to be, Eastern Electricity used to have 4x4 versions, they made good recovery trucks Ian
