bumper problem

hi guys ,

 

i had a little argument with a post the other night and i bent my bumper now ive taken it off and straightened it but i decided to take the over riders off as i was gonna clean it up sand down the rusty bits and spray it ... when taking them off one of the stuts that is moulded into the rubber of the over rider sheared off ...

 

 

so i cant put them back on and ive sene capris with them off and i quite like the look but ive got holes where they went in that need filling and ive also got holes in the top of the bumper where it appears a previous owner had spotlamps on it ...

 

 

 

whats my best option .. i could just put a bolt thru the hole and do it up aut i want it to look good .. i thought about using the dome headed bumper bolts but they go into a rectangular hole and have tht little rectangular collar above the thread so that u can do them up and all the holes ive got are round ...

 

 

quick fix is what im after so no "get a patch welded on the bottom and fill it" because i need to put the bumper back on before i go out tonight or i will get pulles for no no# plate

Guess you need the bumper if you live in a neighbourhood with aggressive lamp posts.

 

When the bumper is satin black and made of steel there wont be much downside in welding it? Unless you heat it too much so it warps

i cant weld lol and i need somethign quick ive tought about just sticking some really big pop rivets in the holes .. but tht will look ugly

It's a bit of a bodge, but how about bonding small plates on the underside of the holes. Sikaflex or some other powerful adhesive ought to do it. You can then fill the hole with a skim of filler and repaint the bumper.

If it was me I wouldnt repair the one you have damaged. Id leave it and go on a hunt to find a second bumper that you can chop and weld at your leasure. Having a damaged one on my car would drive me to get a nice one sorted out, Insted of just bodging the damaged one back together and not being 100% happy with the end result.

True but I am married and I have a family which is like being unemployed but you have to work more and you have less money LOL

 

In that case I would go with vistas advice as you could easly make your bumper look nice for a tenner

Why dont you take both the bumpers off and stick the plate on with double sided pads? I dont mind the holes think it looks a bit rough and 'road going racer'. Thats my thoughts anyhoo

This is just a quick fix but if the bumper is black, jus go your local motor factors and get some rubber bungs, bout 19 pence each, for sealin the holes up, you can get relatively flat ones and it will do the job for now, and from more than six foot away you would have to be lookin to see em, just a thought.

and leave the indicators dangling there ??

The indicators fit into the gaps in the front panel without too much hassle, just unscrew the plastic trim that extends across the front.
