Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 14, 2016 Moderator Report Posted June 14, 2016 Can bent MacPherson struts be straightened? Well not full on bent per say but a flatish dent that needs to come out. I did a search and the first item that came up was a patent for a MacPherson strut straightening device with diagrams, so it must be possible? Anyone here ever had one of their struts fixed?
colr6 Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 Dare say if you had a metal drift with a good leading edge on it you would be able to do it, may take some heat on the affected area and manipulate the drift down the strut. Depending where the dent is would suggest gusseting the strut or its that big a dent.......bin it !!

Its pretty much in the middle. It may look slight but who knows with these things and if it goings to effect its use. Certainly it would create a weak spot.
colr6 Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 More than likely have insert inside the strut so shouldn't really affect it. The cases are fairly sturdy anyway so it's not going to collapse on you unless you decide to do a million mile rally in the Aussie outback
