Thanks for the clarification. Your second  post seems quite clear cut in the way they've explained it. 

Although I'd have to now wait until April 2020, it's not such a bad thing, as my car is usually off the road and sorned/untaxed during the winter months anyway. 

Time to get the axle stands out for some maintenance then by the looks of things, starting with getting the tramp bars and panhard blasted and powder coated. 😀

You need to send the V5 of once you have taxed it you can also fill out a form for mot exemption but I don’t think you can actually get an mot once you have applied, personally I would mot the car every year! 

1 you know it’s safe (not that I wouldn’t be) 

2 if you ever sell it there are decent records of mots which looks better for the history file 

you also send the V5 to a different department so the likelihood of it being held is minimal (I spoke to the dvla last week regarding this)

Mine is 1978 and I applied this year ,post Office sent it off with the form and guess what Dvla lost it ,eventually they sorted it some 8 weeks later so now tax exempt 👍
