I know I keep posting people, but hopefully you wont hold it against me too much.

I now have the rear axle off, ready for a clean, repaint, new gasket, oil etc.

But I am struggling with removing the front of the rear leaf spring where it connects through the chassis rail - there is a nut inside a really daft sized hole on the outer side of the chassis which I have got un-done, but the long bolt is still pretty stuck, it turns with spanner on, but not going anywhere.

Was after a suggestion or two, but kind and helpful ones please.....

Should I try knocking it through with perhaps another same sized bolt from outside to inside?

Or maybe grind off the bolt head on the inside and try the same thing but knocking from inside to outside? Bit stuck with this and want it off as I have new bushes waiting to be pressed into place.

And secondly, my front ARB is 19mm in diameter, and the 3x double width ARB bushes I need for the anti-dive kit fitted along the front middle of the ARB only seem to come in 20,22 and 24mm sizes.

Has anyone ever put say 20mm bushes on a 19mm ARB, or would that be pointless?

If anyone knows where I could get the bushes that would be cool, I have looked and not found.

Or is a replacement ARB the obvious thing to do here?

Thank you very much people, hopefully the above makes sense.

You could always try cutting the head off the bolt and using the same size bolt as a drift to knock through but you may have to cut the bolt as it comes out the other side as I don't think there is enough space for the full bolt to come out. If that doesn't work you will have to cut bolt either side of Spring to remove and replace when taking the bush out.

If it rotates, then I'd guess it has corroded itself to the insert in the spring bush so you'll have to get medieval and beat it out or cut the bolt both sides, inside the spring hanger to drop the spring out then push the whole bush out.

In relation to your anti/roll bar issue would have thought the 20mm bushes would be correct, no doubt JP will correct me if I'm wrong. He would be the one toad isle on Capri stuff.

Cheers people, help/advice always appreciated - I will take a look at the spring hanger gaps I have in order to see if I can cut the bolt into as small sections as possible, that would definitely help get it out. If  not then I shall just absolutely soak with WD and get bashing with another bolt to see if I can knock it through.

@colr6 - hopefully JP can chip in, would be cool if the 20mm bushes are ok on the 19mm bar. I may give them a try anyhow as it is not a track car, but if 20mm are ok, just wondering why they make 19mm bushes?

Only not the double width ones that I need for the anti-dive setup.

Cheers - Kellye.

Guys, another question please.

My car currently has a 19mm diameter front ARB, but with the issue of finding 19mm bushes and the fact that the ARB has suffered a little corrosion over the years, if I were to source a newer ARB - for example a 24mm diameter bar from a later 2.8 model, with the exception of obviously needing the 24mm bushes, is it pretty much a straight swap, and fits into the same TCA's?

Thanks, this is turning out more expensive than I was hoping....... :banghead:

Sorry missed this topic...

Have a bussy new job doing to much hours. In doubt please PM me.

20mm bushes on 19mm ARB is useless and won't work. Bushes on the ARB need to be tight fit otherwise they will walk out of the clamps holding them.

If the 24mm ARB has the same figur as yours then it will be a straight swap. There are two types ARB's used on the Capri. Straight models on the older ones and later ones had an extra curve.

If it differs in figur, you;'ll need to replace brackets and clamps to.

Have to say, 24mm ARB is not necessary. Upgrading front shocks to adjustable GAZ inserts and 190lb Classic Road springs has more influence on good cornering and handling with a Capri.

Cheers JP, glad of your input - only reason for looking at the 24mm ARB is because I am  struggling to get the double width 19mm bushes, which mine has 3 of at the front where it all bolts together via anti dive kit/box.

Glad of the info on the 20mm bushes as I was thinking of giving it a go.. :dope:

Will keep looking for 19mm ones for now.
