Whilst a debate has broken out on a different thread about what's OldSkool and what's not, I thought I will just pop onto the classic ford show page to see what's "classic" this year as last year was 20years+ ( pre 96 )

 

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this !!!! Pre 2002!!!!! Which will include Ford Focus, Ka, Puma. None of which are classic nor indeed retro in my book.

 

Are true classic fords really dieing out that this years "classic" ford show will now be open to the blue RS focus group??

 

I won't be attending. You may think that I'm letting them win but I'm not supporting a "classic" car show that allows 2001 model cars to attend.

I have to agree Mr Gerbil, Wandering around looking at almost new cars really just doesn't appeal to me either

But maybe if the much older fords are no longer turning out in the numbers they used to, perhaps the organizers of the event feel they have to push out the dates to get the numbers in maybe? There is quite a big following of the RS Focus brigade, which if I am honest I do kind of like, but they are not classic cars.

Understand that lack of classics is making problems. Last year was the first time I'd been in 3 years. I was shocked by the number of shall we say Retro fords from the 90's. It was nice to have all the classics grouped together but the show had lost its rally school rides, the drift/stunt demo arena. It just wasn't classic.

 

Maybe more classic cars would show at a more classic location? Maybe they need to change the name of the event?

 

Do they feature focus' and Ka's in the mag?

I'm gonna focus in the Retro show this year. At least that is 95 and before

KA's won't ever be retro or classic anything. They are what they are, a cheap A to B disposable car. I am not knocking them, I use one daily and it because of it, I can afford to keep the classic old girls tucked away in the garage.

The focuses are different, they have the RS and now the ST following, which I do get, but still nowhere near old enough to classed as a "Classic" or "Retro", IMHO anyway, for what it is worth.

I must admit, if Classic Ford Show ends up like Ford Fair did I may not attending it anymore as its not worth for me to make the trip from Holland.

I do like the adventure driving my OSF from Holland to the Classic Ford Show and meet up with all the people of the same comunity.

 

Ford Fair in our experiance was getting newer & newer every year. More traders every year selling parts for newer cars and OSF supliers where getting scarcer by the year.

Finaly we decided to skip the evend as it added no value for us any more.

 

We had more joy attending the Silverstone Classic as thats all about Classics.

 

So we'll see where Classic Ford Show stands in the comming up event.

 I agree with the comments regarding the show starting to lose it's classic appeal. I understand the need to make the show financially viable, but that's an 'eye of the beholder' sort of thing. If it's for classic cars then the organisers should swallow the fact that there might be less people attending one year, work out why, and deal with it. If they move the goalposts then it will get over-run with modern stuff and ultimately fizzle out anyway because you can see that stuff in the local retail park any day of the week. I certainly don't fancy going to the pod, paying 30 quid to get in (plus a tenner's worth of petrol getting out) when I can roll 300 yards to see the same stuff free (and I only live 10 miles away!). The whole point of classic ford show was to bring them all together and I don't want to walk between the newer cars searching for what I really go there to see.

To give some balance, maybe this will eventually happen anyway as the cars we love eventually die? We could even end up with just one run like the London to Brighton....Where's my deerstalker and goggles?

This is usually a complaint that gets aired on here after the event, it's a pretty bad sign that it's already in discussion nearly 2 months prior to it!

96 last year was pushing it a bit, (lot), but 2002? How does that equal classic? Its only 4 years from millions of bloody blue and orange focci taking over! I do enjoy spanking the the things on the way there, but i dont want to look at rows and rows of them, and i certainly dont want to listen to the tossing things sat on the rev limiter all night.

Classic ford show I'm my opinion is the only big show which is mainly classic ford ,went to ford fair last year and sadly won't go again, massive Que to get in, and row after row of fiestas, focus, and even ford galaxy owners club, lol

I agree I this 96 is new enough even tho I have a focus rs I wouldn't take it to a classic car show it's to new but I suppose event organisers have to move with the times they have to get people through the gate to make it pay but they will be a future classics but not yet couple more years yet

The only reason there is a shortage of "proper" classics is because they pi55ed people off in the first place by allowing hoards of the plastic bumpered cars in. Then they tried to reverse that trend but by then the admission price had sky rocketed. I simply refuse to pay out that kind of entrance money where we ARE the show. So many of the Anglia gang dont bother now, and almost anyone else i speak too with 60's 70's classics are not interested in this event anymore.

Agree with MG, its had its day and they've effectively turned it into another Ford Fair imo.

 

Another event that has wee'd on it own chips is the Harpenden Classics on the Green. £12 entry or £17 early entry.  Oh and the modern classics are allowed on the green first priority. Charity show fair enough, but come on.... honestly. Think I'll stick to doing tours and using it for my purposes.

If it's registered new then nope. If they have reshelled as that is the most likely then yes.

To expand on my nope. If a mk2 escort shell was purchased and built in your garage and then registered as a new build it wouldn't be a Ford escort. It would be a kit car you've built. Unless the Chinese company put there name to it. So therefore excluding it from any Ford group or show.

 

Same goes for the Rs200 kit car and GT40
