chinkamon
sooo...., been toying with the idea of replacing my exhaust with a stainless one thing is I'd have to replace the entire thing really wouldn't i? I.e manifold too? if I do that means I'd have to change the carb set up because the mk1 Tina carb is linked to the exhaust manifold yes?? is there any point/ benefit to changing it after the branch of the manifold? thoughts?? colr6
If your still on original carb exhaust set up the manifold is cast, and will out last any stainless system you will atatch to it ! So it's just an exhaust system change.
katana
Does it look like this? ie Pre Crossflow? If yes then as long as you can find a pre Xflow SS manifold I see no reason to change the inlet - they are split I believe - not one piece! Although if it is a single casting then you've answered your own question LOL!

dacar
I fitted a stainless from the front down pipe back, even the guy that fitted it said leave the manifold and down pipe well alone. Very pleased with results.
chinkamon
Next question is.... I have removed the front box and just got the rear box and a cherry bomb on the back If I go stainless do I ask for both boxes to be left out an just leave the cherry bomb in place ? Or will it have a bad impact on what little performance I have? I.e. loss of back pressure??
colr6
Don't think back pressure would be your problem as noise would be. If you have the option of what you have in your exhaust I personally would go for straight through to a good sized rear silencer with the provision of fitting of a cherry silencer in front of the axle. Well really the cherry bomb is not a silencer more of a resonater. Try with just the rear silencer first and if found to be to noisy fit the cherry infront of the axle.
chinkamon
Well I already have the stock silencer on the back, removed the front one a long time back and it's just straight through. The cherry bomb is a rolled chrome tip one I bought a while back, so that'll be staying at the very end as it looks all pretty! (Lol!!) But the noise isn't loud as it is, wasn't sure if the stainless would be louder in the same configuration as the metals different ( I heard they sound different?)
