!!!!!Breaking News!!!!!
I can now publicly announce we have been invited to take part in the 1960’s Gala at the South Devon Railway on the Sunday.
We have been asked to form a diorama type display, showing off the best of the 60’s. As we all know, 1968 saw the Birth of the Mk1 Escort and it would be great to make a 50th display for this. Also Alan Mann racing, rally wins, Anglias and Corsairs.
The event will take place on the Grounds out side Buckfastleigh Station. There will also be live bands, Beer tent, kids attractions and of course the railway it’s self. As a thank you for taking part, included in the cost you will be given free train travel on or after 3pm.
As the Gala is on all weekend we have also been invited down to watch the live bands and partake in liquid refreshments Friday and Saturday evenings.
As with Goodwood Revival, fancy dress is highly encouraged and prizes will be handed out to those who wish to take part.
For those of us with 70’s model cars ie Mk2 escorts you are still welcome to take part in the day, perhaps making a looking into the future Stand.
Us attending the Gala on Sunday has no extra cost to ticket prices and provides another family day out for those who wish to take part.
More details to come from the railway but here is a link http://southdevonrailway.co.uk/ticket-to-ride
Brilliant ... Bloody well done

Not sure how to say this but unless more people book camping tickets this event may not happen. We are a long way off target.

The camping area has all these facilities....

  • Modern, well-equipped amenity blocks, with free hot water and showers
  • Electric hook-up points (book early)
  • Hard standing camping pitches (please request when booking)
  • Facilities for disabled and young families
  • Covered washing up areas
  • Water and rubbish points
  • Laundry rooms (coin operated)
  • Tennis courts - please bring your own rackets
  • Secure barrier entry system
  • Recycling facilities
  • Wardens
  • Toddlers Beach
  • Old Sawmill Cafe & Restaurant
  • Wi-Fi - superfast wifi zones onsite
  • Well behaved pets welcome, must be kept on a lead at all times. (max of 2 dogs)

you will also have access to the park all weekend.

We had a great laugh last year with lots of banter and a quiz.

Is that it , 6?  Is there a date that we have to commit to the campsite and pay money?

Afraid so mate. June is a busy month and with two other big events (Lakes Tour and CFS) at either end, it's no surprise that limited people want to do a third. Any later and we're in to holiday season at the venue though.

There's another 75 people who've marked the event as interested on our FB page......but "interested" and "going" are not the same thing by a long shot.

Personally I think it's dirt cheap for a whole weekend event including accommodation. For comparison, the Alfa Montreal tour I have also been invited on later this year is £1000 for two people (also inclusive of event and accommodation).

If there are no further takers for this then unfortunately at the current take up rate it won't be going ahead.

That would be a shame as last year was really good - but I completely understand you can't afford to make a loss.

If we decide to cancel the camping side who on here would still be interested in a group tour on the Saturday?  No event on Sunday, no pub quiz, no Saturday night BBQ, no access to river dart country park...?

Rally plates have already been priced but not orderd. The route is 90% complete.

Disappointed as last years feedback was excellent. I know a few dates of events up and down the country have changed. Is OSF dying.....?

Seems like we all love OSF's,  but our ideas of a good car day/weekend differ from person to person. I thought the river dart weekend was awesome, but the 8 hours to get there was a bit of a killer. And i loved the NEC, but Popeye struggled to get 4 of us together. Horses for courses as they say...

It was a great weekend last year,  the site was superb,  the facilities on it would encourage even a died in the wool non camper,  ( dont even know if thats a saying)?  Dates are always going to be a compromise as to who can and who cant, same as place, near or far. Ive alway fancied doing the lakes tour but that seems to be the same cars every year and is booked up rediculously quick, it almost comes across a bit cliquey? I could be doing it a massive dis-service,  and thats not my intention. There must be a load of people that have seem the articles and thought, fancy a bit of that? The general opinion last year was the route could be longer, i believe it now is,?  If the weekend is cancelled id still be up for doing the tour bit, maybe look at moving the date further into summer, if thats peoples problem with show conjestion? Again youll never please everyone?
