I had an intermittent fault similar to yours. My crank sensor was ok but the one wire from the sensor plug had broken and was touching the other, although the actual cable looked ok. Two of us ventured over to Inniskillen for the Summit Show and Run 23 which raises money for Parkinsons. Great show on the Saturday followed by a brilliant 120mile run on the Sunday.
