the entire wheel, all steel wheels seem to have a black plating from new, its this that I want to find out what type of plating it is, and where I can get it done

I get some of the parts that I make black plated for identification purposes, they are a matt finish and can be a bit streaky here and there,  fine for what they are used for, but I would have thought a semi-matt or gloss paint would give a better result for wheels, the plating can be scratched easily as well.....

what type of plating do you get done, as far as I can see theres about 4 or 5 different ways to plate black

I want the wheels plated black then silvered and the black masked off, replicating exactly how ford did it

done the paint bit, 2 different ways, not overly impressed tbh

had the steels on my van powder coated, it certainly wouldn't look good on dartboard wheels

The plating I have done is zinc base with black passivation, I’ve got Ford sport steel wheels on my Mk5 Cortina Crusader, had them powder coated in gloss silver, got the black vinyl decals from eBay fitted then lacquered the complete wheel, they look good! If Mr Ford plated them black and then sprayed silver it was probably for cheapness!
