Its just the most amazing place, everywhere you look its just oooo, last i was there they had the sunny, thats something else, looks like a baby GTR, plus a gorgeous chevette thats now done and about, the 2dr jag with an ls motor, a lancia or alfa spider thing with a millington, the murray escort was still in fabrication.

I sort of recognised the building externally but didn't realise his company occupied it, then out on the road it was confirmed - I know the area, fun roads but Plod patrols stop any real fun! I can't imagine what it cost but got to be going towards 6 figures and spending that sort of money you better be sure the car fits the driver, not that the driver has to fit into the car!

I sounded a bit snarky in my last comment I just realised. Its is a beautiful car though. Given he wanted a Twincam and he already had several other Twincam engine cars in his garage it wouldn't have been too qwerky for him to have handle another. He must be a very tall man give how far back they have him with that long column. In turn the bent gear lever looks a bit odd too. For a restomod though its as good as you will ever see.

Not quite getting the independent rear suspension as its just not an escort anymore to drive?

No, it isn't - its an evolution of what the Escort could have become had Ford not gone FWD (which pretty much did for them in Rallying until the later Escorts got totally re-engineered into the Cosworth 4WD variants!) Oh and seeing as Gordon Murray has been / is one of the industries cleverest thinkers in regards to chassis and suspension design, why not take the challenge of improving the underpinnings. And another thing . . . . . . . . its not your car! 😁

He could paint it pink and have a shark fin on the roof for all I care but wishbone rear suspenion is just to far removed from its underpinnings and the drive, as for being one of the cleverest thinkers well i don't doubt that but just not my idea of a ford rwd escort and I bet it drives like shit up the lanes. And as for not being my car.........what do you mean?

By 'not your car' he means he can do what he likes as it's his car. And if you've got the money & are a bit savvy then why not do what he did-escorts have been done to death to be honest-nice to see something a little bit leftfield i reckon-especially if you have a garage full of 'standard' fare motors.

I did'nt say he could'nt do it and I dont really care that he has to be honest, but over the years I've seen this tried a few times and it takes a car that is easy to read and gives it twitchy horrible snap oversteer because of the short wheel base a bit like a E30.

As for escorts being done to death I agree but thats why we love um and thats why I've had one in my garage for 31 years i suppose

Well if it doesn't work he's made a very expensive mistake lol-although it looks like he can afford to.

While he maintains it was a collaborative effort and it was to a certain extent, having seen the entire series I felt more of the decision process was what Retropower wanted to do to showcase their abilities and they convinced Gordon Murray to accept the direction they wanted to go. Only small tokenistic wants were included like the rear vents but by an large this was the car Retropower wanted to build not the one Gordon Murray originally envisaged. The hype and video log off it struck me as a promotional showcase series and getting associated with a big name in Motorsport were the main factors at play here. Leaving it as a traditional beam axle that Gordon actually wanted was not conducive to that as it wouldnt be able to highlight their fabrication and engineering skills to their full extent.
