antz Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 right since i bought the escort ive always been running it on balloon tyres. 175/70s BUT now ive dropped the whole car 2 inches and put on my new wheels with 185/70's on they are rubbing the arches. my question is... what tyres and sizes can you recommend? i dont really want to knock my speedo off but i dont have much choice! so the little the better. cheers all
antz Posted March 4, 2007 Author Report Posted March 4, 2007 175 50 or 195 45 the idea is to not knock my speedo out as much as possible and remember im running a 1.3 so if i fitted tiny tyres id have the top speed or a push bike
Wessie Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 you dont want top speed when i was working out what diff i wanted, i spoke to the lads at escort tec and they said for a young driver have a car that accelerates quick, you can have fun with round country lanes/roundabouts etc but dont have a high top speed cos thats how you usually get points on your licence and i thought about it and it makes absolute sense ! so dont worry about your top speed antz
antz Posted March 4, 2007 Author Report Posted March 4, 2007 hmmm 185/65 doesnt sound too bad. will they not catch my wheel arches then? how far will the 65s knock my speedo out? what about the 60s? sorry for been a pain in the arse the reason i want top speed is cos i do a lot of motorway miles in it (well i did until last week) or i just get tiny tyres and get a pinto slotted in dammit why did i just fit an electronic ignition to a 1300 xflow when i wanna upgrade my engine .wel done genius

antz Posted March 4, 2007 Author Report Posted March 4, 2007 i had 185/60/13 on 7s on my first mk2,speedo wasnt out much,no rubbin and went well to sounds good only problem is my steels are essentially bacwards and the guy at the garage has to clamp the front in the wheel machine and it fooks all my paint work up evcerytime. im not gonna spend another £15 on spray cans of hammerite and another god knows how many hours spraying them up and drying them to have him knacker them again

Dom Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 So do I, just not on purpose . I've just chucked single leafs on the capri with 2in blocks so it now sits 3 inches lower to the ground, gonna have to find some new rubber, probably 175/50s or 195/45s to get it that bit lower

susiemk1 Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Your original 175/70R13 will fit rims between 5J to 6.5J it would be worth trying them then it would not affect the speedo. Alot of alloy wheels are 'upside down' now and if you local garage doesn't have plastic heads for the feet get them to wrap paper towel around them and as already been said clamp from the outside in.
johnboy Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 185/60R13 is a good compromise between your speedo being fairly accurate and practicality. Youll get better acceleration as well. For looks go for 175/50's.
