S2 Dee Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Steve, IMHO start with a small (easily portable) box you will need to take tools with you at some point in the future. You can get a top chest and roll cab when you need them. Start filling it with the essentials a good set of AF and metric spanners, a decent screw driver set and of course sockets and a ratchet, 3/8 drive I would suggest. Breaker bars come in handy. Some pliers too. It is a false economy to buy cheap tools, you will only end up having to replace them. Keep them clean. One other thing try not to lend them out! I run a purchasing department for a bus company and can often get good deals for tools, I can have a word with one of our suppliers as they are dealers for Sealy, if you like. Dee
Stu_B Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Buy a cheap set and spend the rest on sweets & comics!!

MK2STOO Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 I had £200 to spend on tools a year or so ago and i went to this site http://www.tooled-up.com/ and got myself a cracking tool kit. I think i spent £235 in the end and i got a set of britool spanners 8mm-19mm, (they came with imperial sizes free which is ace for osf ), Britool Screwdriver set, Britool 5 piece pliers set (inc molegrips), Britool allen key set (again including free imperial sizes set), a sealey 3/8" Drive socket set, a set of 4 sealey pry bars, and a copper/rawhide mallet (for whacking stuff!!) so all in all for jus over 200 squids i got an awesome little kit that is mostly britool!! Not too sad eh??

borneo Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Cheap tools are definately a false economy. Pride of my collection is my 24oz Estwing ballpeen hammer. You will probably use it more than any other tool you own and it will last you a lifetime.
