Bully Posted July 15, 2021 Report Posted July 15, 2021 Hi guys I'm replacing my front strut inserts but can't get the insert out of the strut body, is there a specific tool to do this job ? Any advice well be appreciated 🙏
caprimk1v4 Posted July 17, 2021 Report Posted July 17, 2021 NOT all struts have a removable insert, some are built into the case from the factory, I have a brand new set of struts if you ever need them, Genuine Ford one,s.

From your paint colour thread it may be important to point out that this may be on your South African car would that be correct? As Caprimk1v4 points out that not all struts are the same especially some of the overseas made ones. For example Australian made struts are unique in design in that they have large spring platforms yet integral steering arms and from the factory the tube of the strut is actually the shock casing with a stem and piston inside filled with oil that combine make a integral shock absorber. Fortunately these oily innards can all be removed and then replaced with self contain inserts. There is a collar at the top of the strut tube that needs to be unscrewed to get access though. Some images may help though to determine what you have though.
caprimk1v4 Posted July 18, 2021 Report Posted July 18, 2021 Hi all, As RP2000 say's (Must be an old skool lad like myself), once you have gutted the piston rod and valve seal/piston, you can pour out the oil (there is not much in there, about 40cc of oil from memory), pour in a bit of gun wash thinners or or cellulose thinners close off the top with some rags and give it a shake, just the clean out the thickish oil stuck to the insides of the tube, and then pop in a new insert kit that will most prob come with a new neck nut & seal assembly, build it back up and away to go, best check if you can get hold of an insert kit for your struts, later struts came with a as designed stryt insert from build. 1
