Right.....

Today I went and looked at a very tidy mk1 4 door in olympic blue that was mechanically and structually sound... it has had time and money spent on it but the prob is the prep work before the respray was rubbish... the car is rippled and has a lot of dents under a nice glossy olympic blue plus a fair amount of filler in places :? ... The car is also bog standard 1300l... therefore drums all round and a fairly slow engine...

What should i do with regards to buying it and upgrading it??? its up for £1995

Part 2 of the problem is that sitting next to it was a mint rs2000 replica that has been done to a very high standard with full rs spec running gear, engine, 5 speed rose linked gearbox, anti tramp bars etc etc..... it looked great and original looking using a very solid 1100l shell... price for this was £7k... IS this too much for it??? My Dad was tempted to get it and let me store it at mine and use it as and when i want and id buy it off him over time!!!

So should I put my money towards the RS (or is it too over priced) or should I go 4 door and have a very useable but not great project???

Apologies for the stupidly long email but I need some help!!! lol

cheers guys

the 4 door is over priced! £2000 should get you a mint 4 door not one full of filler.

as for a RS rep id say thats expensive. you can get genuine rs2000s for that money. it wont be a minter but a rep isnt worth that much

1300 it should have discs on the front, only 1100s were drums all around.

If you have any doubt whatsoever then it's not the car for you & sounds overpriced for the spec & condition (tons of filler & rippled body? Accident repair?)

Leave it, continue saving & find a decent one

Wicked... I needed some sensible views... You can see the 4 door on PA autos website... some1 stuck it in the 4 sale bit a week and a bit ago...

It doesnt look like accident damage but I didnt like it, its round the back arches, tho the back quarter panels themselves were solid... I dont look at cars without a magnet!!! lol

Think the RS has a high price as I sensed the guy didnt really want to sell it that much so he was seeing what he could get.....

The RS rep maybe £4 to 5k at the most depending how good it was & whether it had the plating kit etc, but still an 1100 on the book.

The 4dr is too expensive, if the panels are that bad (depending on which ones) then £1200 to £1500 maybe less

£2k is into 2dr territory.
