Johnny Boy Posted August 28, 2023 Report Posted August 28, 2023 As we said at the start, I think you need to get a reader that reads it , and check what codes come up. that will give you a clue to what's going on. otherwise you will be just guessing and costing a lot keep changing stuff unnecessarily.

Well that's an issue as well. Three code readers have been plugged into it now (Including a stupidly expensive and mega snazzy snap on one) but none of them have been able to connect to the ECU. It's now booked into a specialist in a few weeks time who will investigate, and if need be, replace the ECU. There's no point having an ECU if it can't be read.
Miniliteman Posted August 28, 2023 Report Posted August 28, 2023 The Lucas Laser 2000 will connect with the ECU just don't expect miracles from these older diagnostic machines. The older ECU's are very limited in their diagnostic capabilities so a code reader that connects cannot get info out that isn't there. I've done a few parallel diagnostics with the Laser 2000; you connect a breakoutcable to the wiring loom and that connects to the Laser 2000. That way you can "read" all the signals live and monitor and store them. Very very time consuming and you need to know how to interpret all the signals, and their relations. 1

The engine in my Cortina runs a Nodiz ecu. Factory new 139 bhp, with the dcoes and a rolling road tune 160 bhp / 150 ft torque.

I have had considered that and even the Jenvey throttle bodies option, but it's the cost at the moment. Plus, I'm not sure I'd have the knowledge or capability to handle all the electrickery changes. 🤔
