Found this document with dimensions of 4 speed and 5 speed Ford gearboxes.

The 4 speed picture looks like a type 2 and the 5 speed looks to be a very similar set up to a type 3. (Other members nay be able to confirm)

Thanks not what I need, Type 2 gearbox and Type 3 are both 4 speed, I need to know the overall lengths of these gearboxes.

Hi @oldwheels

If you go further down the article you will see the dimensions for the 4 speed Type 2. As mentioned I think the 5 speed dimensions are the same as the type 3.

The type 3 is longer and I have seen others do a swap to a 5 speed from a type 3. I know if you do a 5 speed conversion from a type2 you have to move the gearstick back. There are others on the forum that can help, I think. @colr6can you confirm about type 3.

Just thought I would let you know  having obtained a STD Escort box that you are 100 % correct the type 3 gearbox is 3" longer, thanks for your help and advice.
