Months ago my 2007 Focus went for its MOT and they handed it back to me with a shifter fault. The thing wont release from park even with your foot on the brake pedal. The solenoid tested fine. The code reads as a faulty transmission shifter switch. I think though that this switch is an integral part of the circuit board that is at the base of the shifter. They just handed it back to me with a pen to manual release it but the trouble with that is it lights up a warning as a transmission malfunction all the time when you do that. Since no one seems to have these boards available as a new replacement so I may have to get a whole replacement shifter assembly. The trouble i see with this is how do I know the replacement secondhand one doesn’t have the same fault? Have I got it all  wrong and there is a separate shift interlock switch? The car has been with an Auto Electrician for 2 months cause I was unable to drive it home but they returned it today and they couldn’t repair it. Im at a loss at what to do?

What is the type of transmission the car has? (AG5?) Can they reset the fault?

Im not sure to be honest some 4 speed auto transmission, i will have to look into it. When they reset it it jammed in 1st and when i corrected that by moving the shift back and forth the fault warning came back again

Have a lot of Technical Service Training books from Ford. CG 7859 covers the design and working of the 4F27E autobox as used on the Focus. CG 7860 covers diagnosis of that box. If your car has the 4F27E transmission look for those original Ford books online. I could email you scans but mine are in Dutch ... on this transmission the transmission selector switch is mounted onto the side of the tramsmission.
