  1. Thanks for that. I spoke to a lovely chap at K and N filters today who pointed me to the correct air box assembly so that's sorted now too.
  2. The tyre definitely says 165/80, I thought they'd be at least 175. I dont know the rim width. May have to measure it tomorrow.
  3. No-one? Whats wrong with you all today?
  4. Couple of questions for you lovely folks, firstly what would be the biggest and smallest tyre size I could run a set of original rostyles, at present they're 165/80 all around. Secondly, I'm looking to replace the old blue box air filter with, possibly, a K & N pancake filter (any other suggestions welcome) and want to know what fits. The engine is a standard 2.0 Pinto with dual choke carb (not sure which make but it's the original as far as I know.
  5. What it was...is still unknown. After the fourth adjustment that seems fine although I havent done a long run yet. The carb was also gunked up, now cleansed and a diaphragm somewhere in all that was allowing some air backwards into the fuel lines! Hopefully now all is sorted...at least for a couple of months.
  6. S**t god damn, the Capri is running again and really smoothly, (not holding my breath yet mind). So the next job is to pop in a manual choke, so if anyone can direct me to an appropriate thread if there is one or convince me its an easy job then jump on in. If it helps it's a mk2 2.0 pinto.
  7. Queen's of the Stone age - First it Giveth Jeff Buckley - Lover you should've come over MC5 - Kick out the Jams Foo Fighters - Everlong ...and don't I look young next to the other suggestions
  8. I found Joe Ashton, who's Colin? (excuse my ignorance, I'm a bit of a lone wolf in the classic car world ).
  9. I need your collective help as at the moment I want to kick the capri to the kerb in frustration. The exhaust tappets could be adjusted no more so I removed the head and it had new hardened valve seats put in place (by a reputable company with many years of experience). Once back together I took it for a test run. After the start with possibly the smoothest rixe ever we reached about 10 miles and it started kangarooing. We literally limped home. On inspection we found the tappets tight again. Readjusted. Test drive. 10 miles.Kangaroo.Limping.RAC. you get the idea. Yesterday I once again found tightened tappets and corrected the spacing (using the measurements from a garage manual from 1978), 13 miles. Kangaroo. Limp. Some tears. Help me before I put it in a shed, cover up and buy some dull modern hunk o' boring.
  10. And now I'm sat in a carpark awaiting the RAC again as the tappets have tightened up...again and I'm going nowhere. Might be time to put this in a shed and get something normal
  11. Getting over last night! Going to see Grand Budapest Hotel at the flicks running in my joyously, now functioning freshly skimmed pinto. And then beer. Probably
  12. not worth mentioning%. The main thing is I got the Capri one right.
  13. Ha ha. I know my place. That and cars aren't that much cop for sexy time...
  14. Hello from another Ford-VW-Ford person
  15. I don't normally do stuff, I'm having a poor moment and this has saved me about £400!!
  16. So not being that mechanically brave I had a corner of my local garage and managed to take off the cylinder head for new valve seats. Today I got it all back together and fired her up...it all works, woohoo. Almost immediately when depressing the accelerator, the throttle cable snapped.
  17. Hmm, starting with the small jobs...well after only tinkering before I've been allowed a corner in my local garage ( damn nice of them ) and took the head off to get valve seats popped in. I'm now rebuilding, with any luck she'll fire up on Friday. This is a lark isn't it?
  18. Well that was a fun five minutes reading. Handbags at dawn boys
  19. This morning, I agree with this statement...
  20. aargh! soggy footwell, new weather strips NOW!!! And a garage wouldn't go amiss. In Exeter...if anyone has one...please...
  21. Highs: finally having a holiday with my wife and kid after about 14 years of not being able to afford it. Getting an old Bedford camper. Seeing the Capri in its new paint. Lows: My brothers attacker getting off scot free thanks to British justice. Struggling to find work...again, goddamnit.
  22. After watching The Professionals this morning for a large slice of car porn I then heard on the news about the death of Lewis Collins, aka Bodie. I guess he's off to the big Capri drift in the sky.
  23. Id just like to say what a cracking chuckle I've had reading this entire thread, I have no opinion on anything...possibly...oh no I meant I'm REALLY opinionated so I'll do what wifey says and keep my mouth shut before I get into trouble.
  24. Yep. They split it, he's blind in one eye and now it's being removed I believe. These bouncers will, in time, get away with murder. I think they may be a bit friendly with certain police officers.
  25. I think he's doing all of the above including making a complaint against the police citing there poor attempt at an investigation. Feels a bit conspiratorial to be honest.
