Ah mate...didn't realise this was you....nice one Certainly is me!! Back to this paint job....... It really is a personal taste thing. My flame paint job is similar in that some people love it and others hate it. Although may not say it to my face! At the flames and frames show last year, I saw a doris turn her nose up at it, so I said to her... what a piece of shit eh? Paint some flames on a crappy old ford and think you've got a hot rod. Shouldn't have been allowed in. She totally agreed with me and slagged it off for some time, then I opened the door and got my coat out of it. Should have seen her face!!

If the chrome is in good nick, no abrasive polish should be used. Even chrome polish is bad news as it will scratch the surface which will lead to pits and corrosion. Silvo is the stuff to use. Used to be called duraglit silver. Not abrasive and still comes up a treat. Don't know about the meguires stuff...... might be OK

That'd be right. You've got a good memory! I went with Ray and some other guys with hot rods. I'm was more into rods and trucks really, but am quite struck on the old fords now too. That Tina has been my daily driver for about 8 years. I would normally take my Mercury truck to stuff like that, but wanted to show off my new paint! Did you have the pop in your sig there?? I went to flames and frames last year. There was some cool stuff there. I used to be a member of BHRA but got fed up with their odd internal political issues. I was at the swap meet too in my missus' black 1600e. Bought a lovely Nardi Torino wooden steering wheel for my Cortina

I agree that it is a bit of overkill for my application, however there is no room to run the original distributor and I do not want to spend out on a manta dizzy (belt driven!) as I don't think that is very pretty or a great way of overcoming the problem.

Well... thanks for the debate chaps! I'm not going for throttle bodies or anything too fancy, so I'm hoping I won't be needing any spares. Only going to get the ECU and a throttle position sensor. My engine is stock, so I would like to think the map supplied should be adequate. Funny how Mk1mexico thinks its brilliant and had one himself, and all the bad comments are from people who have heard bad stuff from other people. Dissatisfied customers spread the word much further than satisfied ones. Just look at the East Kent thread!!

Anybody got one up and running? Going to buy one for my XE tomorrow I think, unless I get talked out of it. Was going to buy an MBE one, but it's much more money and I know the guy at my local weber dealer so thought I might as well go down that road. Any half sensible thoughts?

Since giving Mrs. Rustypup her 1600E for christmas, I have to confess to having been hogging it most of the time as my Tina is having a bit of a makeover (see projects and restos). Looks like she is now leaving her job and therefore leaving her company car and needs it back. Going to have to fix one of my babies pretty quick........ Don't know weather to: 1. Press on with Cortina flambe, loads left to do including steering brakes, plumbing and wiring (will probably be thirsty and not very practical) 2. Weld up the chassis on my truck and MOT it. (hopefully just a couple of weekends work) - Will be very thirsty and not very practical. 3. Rebuild the gearbox on my motorbike (not very appealing job) which is not very practical. 4. Get the pushbike out!!!
