yes mate get someone to press the trottle to the floor when you do it or pull the cable or carb linkage under the bonnet. If when you do it with a bit of oil down the bores it increases that means either your rings are shot or the bores or knackered or a bit of both. Hope this helps you mate

Could anyone tell me what i need to fit a smiths oil pressure gauge into a mk1 escort fitted with a 1600xflow engine. I know that i need a t piece so i can still run the oil pressure warning light and i know i need a length of tube/copper stuff with fittings on each end but are all the pipes with fittings on the end suitable? Im using the competition sump gasket from burtons for the sump can i put sealer either side of that or is there no need?

what is the best engine assembly sealant/sealer to use I am putting my freshly bored cross flow together with all new gaskets from burtons and ive ordered a competition sump gasket and just wanted to know what sealer to use as a secondary precaution as its always leaked from the sump. i will also use it on both sides of the paper gaskets which is what ive always done to prevent leaking just need to know what the best sealer is as i dont want to waste my money. Ive heard good things about Hylomar and burtons sell that? any info would be greatly appreciated cheers guys

It a 1600 Xflow bored to a 1640 with a big valve ported and polished head, bcf2 kent cam, 32/36dgv 1600 mexico spec carb with K&N air filter,4 branch ashley manifold and single box system,and a bestek electronic igniton kit set up to suit the engine spec.
