  1. "Discount or glasses?" That's what we were supposed to offer.....punters either got 10p off a gallon, or a free whisky glass with every four gallons......of course we gave them neither and used to pocket the discount ourselves....I was clearing thirty to forty quid a week in 1977....big bucks then, especially for a 16 year old !
  2. The bird in the MG knew exactly what she was doing as well. She must be about 60 by now.....bet she's still hot though!
  3. I'm sure there is a sit-com just waiting to happen based on owners club get togethers. I went to the Uxbridge Auto show on Sunday and I couldn't help but chuckle at some of the "characters" that were on the various stands (well more a case of under awnings but you know what I mean). There were an awfull lot of trousers three inches short of of their owners ankles together with some very dodgy jumpers about, not to mention far too much facial hair than any man, or doris, should be sporting! Also there were a couple of rival Granada owners clubs located next to each other, and I kept thinking of the Life of Brian "splitter" scene! I couldn't help but eavesdrop on some of the converstaions that went along the lines of "I think you'll find that they discontinued that shade of beige for the interior of the Morris Marina in July 1972". I visited my own owners club stand (yep I'm a fully paid up member of the 105E oc and proud of it!) and it was like a scene from a western when a stranger enters the saloon and the piano player stops playing and that old bloke with a limp and a squint rushes out to get the Sherriff! Still what would we do without them....struggle for parts for a start! Mind you there was one club stand there that had my handwriting all over it......anyone know how I go about joining the "DEADBEATS"?
  4. And what do these people suggest you do with the dosh instead I wonder?? I get this same question sometimes, usually from people who sit in front of a three grand telly watching Big Brother or some other sh*te!
  5. yeah but there is individual and then there's outside i dont want to be stood at a 1 car car show because nobody else likes it too old for the saxo boys and too different to be old skool Now listen here young man! You are 19 years old, and therefore are expected to make "mistakes" as you have eons of time on your side in which to put them right! I hand painted my First Anglia when I was 19, including painting the rear side windows black.....I thought it looked groovy and THAT was all that mattered! Stop worrying about what anyone else thinks, so long as you are not hurting anyone else do what the bloody hell you like! Here endeth the lesson!
  6. Think Technical Drawing, think failed Architect...that's us! The requirements for the job being the ability to draw a stright line with a straight edge and give all the girls in the typing pool multiple orgasms at a moments notice! Unfortunately it is a dying art. I was trained on a Drawing Board (back in the 18th century) but it's now all done on computer.....and all the fun has gone out of it, especially as typing pools disappeared years ago! Bet you wish you hadn't asked now don't you
  7. Yep, took the wind right out of my sails didn't it!!!
  8. Here here......Rick has it in a nutshell! Nice buns by the way!
  9. I used to be a "petrol pump attendant"... part time whilst I was serving my apprenticeship. For the youngsters on here, that was someone who used to come out to your car when you pulled up at a petrol pump and put the petrol in for you....we also used to wash your screen, check your oil and water etc if you asked nicely.......oh and if you were a certain lady in a yellow MGB wearing a short skirt and low buttoned blouse that used to come into our garage regularly we used to wash you windscreen whether you asked us toor not.........twice usually!!!! Mind you there is a garage in White Waltham that still has attendants.
  10. Both written by Ian Flemming. Huh! I thought that would have people guessing for ages!!!
  11. Well what it is, is.................I go round to old peoples houses and install sausage dogs by the bottom of their doors to stop the draught coming in... I must be one of them too then
  12. James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
  13. Did you see that bloke that tried to drive down the same steps in Turin a few weeks back......pi**ed out of his head apparently, stopped half way down and was fast asleep by the time the old Bill-io arrived!
  14. Well what it is, is.................I go round to old peoples houses and install sausage dogs by the bottom of their doors to stop the draught coming in...
  15. In no particular order; The Chevy in Two Lane Blacktop The "invisible" Vanquish in....can never remember the name of each JB film! (Die another day?) The E-Type hearse in Harold and Maud Any of the trucks in Hell Drivers The Mustang in Bullit
  16. Well keep plugging away and one day...who knows!!!
  17. I'm a Draughtsman (don't EVER call me a CAD operator!!!) and my Mrs thought I delivered beer when I told her when we first met....she was going out with an Airline Pilot at the time so I thought I had no chance, but I won her over eventually! I once told a bird I was a Draughtsman and she had no idea what it was, so I told her that I installed those sausage dog things that old folks put at the bottom of doors to prevent draughts! Dosey mare bought it hook line and sinker! What depresses me though is that I bet no-one on here under 30 has got the foggiest idea what a Draughtsman is have they?
  18. I mentioned this in the "car chase" thread. However.......my love for the film was recently tainted by finding out that the engine soundtrack was a humble Citroen. As with Bullit they decided to dub on another Engine sound, I think in Bullit they dubbed on a GT40 .......or something else....Jeez my memory is getting worse by the day!!
  19. I'm not a food fascist or anything, as I do eat processed garbage myself sometimes as well as the odd Quarter Pounder with Cheese, but...... I do find it incredible when I see some peoples trollies loaded with nothing but boxes of ready meals or frozen pizzas etc.....not a fresh veggie or piece of fruit to be seen anywhere! Coincidentally(?) they are usually the most unhealthy looking specimens of mankind imaginable!
  20. French connectiopn chase was brilliant. I heard it was filmed with very little effort at clearing the streets as they wanted to get more authenticity...but this could be a myth. Dont forget Rendezvous either..not a chase but a great film none the less, though it has been tainted by the recent revelation that the soundtrack was a bloody Citroen! As for Bullit, did you know that....( it's trivia time folks:D) The guy who directed Bullit, Peter something, got the gig on the strength of his earlier direction of the British film "Robbery" in the mid to late 60s, which has got a great car chase in it featuring a MK2 Jag (what else?)...although I actually think it was a Daimler V8, but it all amounts to the same thing!
  21. I've got to be honest I don't get it! I've done this sort of thing myself with my mates (who hasn't?) when I was young and drunk, and it was fun to us while we were doing it, but in the cold light of day it's just not funny unless there is a pay-off, and there isn't, just someone at the other end of the phone thinking "who's this twat?" I don't get that twat with the big phone shouting either (Dom Jolly is is?)...totally pointless! Oh and as for that Bo Selector shite......can someone please explain it to me!!!! But then again it's all in the eye (or in this case ear) of the beholder.....I collapse in raptures at Hancock, Alan Partridge, Ricky Gervais and Eddie Izzard (to name but a few) whilst at the same time my Mrs sit's there non-plussed saying "WHAT....is so funny?"
  22. YIKES!! That is painful to listen to....mind you I would definitely give Amy a sorting....you just know she'd be up for anything!!! Miss Church you can keep!
  23. MK1-XFLOW...... I suspect your local chief constable has got some "fears" following the decision to organise a "friendly" with Forest!! I spent many week-ends with a mate who lived in Nottingham when I was young free and single, and the last word that springs to mind when talking about Derby and Forest is "friendly!"
  24. snakes! Just typing the word has got me queezy! I can't even look at a picture of one. If one comes on the telly I hide my face behind a cushion! Luckily I don't come across them all too often, or at least didn't till my best mates Daughter got one as a pet (why FFS? It's not as if she can take it for a walk is it?!). Now I will not enter his house until he has sworn upon pain of death that it is in it's case, with a heavy book on top and the bedroom door shut. Before he moved to a house with a downstairs loo I refused to go upstairs as it was too close to the disgusting stupid thing, and took to peeing in his garden! Oh and I am also rapidly developing an irrational fear/loathing of fikking eco-warriors and people spouting on about the bleeding environment every two minutes!
