Very happy thanks! I still find myself looking at Escorts and Capris on eBay though! Where in West Sussex are you? -
Genuine AVO RS2000 Mk1 Escort £26,995

I think values are too high, I was talking to a guy who's been through a few Toyota MR2s, he said, they handle well and are fast when supercharged and more importantly cheap! He drives his cars all the time as a daily drive, he currently has a highly modified Nissan 200SX. I know it's a different scene but the point I'm making is when things are cheaper, people modify, trade, talk and drive more! My favourite Escort was my mk1 1300E - completely standard. It cost me less than £3k but put loads of smiles on my face. I took the whole family to Cornwall in it, in the rain, wind etc. I wasn't precious about it at... just used it and enjoyed it. My RS was lovely but when anything gets above £20k it stops being fun for me. It's as though it starts becoming a work of art that is there to be admired. I don't like art! I like a noisy, brutish, bit of British engineering to tear around the streets in! The TVR at less than £15k fits the bill for me! I still love Escorts, just don't need to own one anymore... I can look at your lot! -
Genuine AVO RS2000 Mk1 Escort £26,995

Had another change of heart and decided to sell. She's sold now, gone to a new home in Essex. The guy who bought her is over the moon. His brother has a mk1 Mexico and his Dad has an Escort Cosworth. He's going to drive and enjoy her. I went out and bought another British car to console myself... -

I have been using her a bit more recently, you're right I need to use her more. I know if I sold her I'd regret it. -

Please could a moderator remove this for sale post, thanks -
Genuine AVO car, purchased from an AVO member, known to the club for at least 10 years now. 2.1 pinto on twin 40s, type 9 5 speed, uprated electronic ignition and WOSP geared starter motor. Drives really well, no shakes or rattles. Was subject to strip down and repaint 5 years ago, the underside was cleaned up and stone chipped. Not a concourse car but a well presentable usable car to drive to shows or to just enjoy. I’ve been using it this week on my 50 mile commute to work. It doesn’t miss a beat. Body is in very, very good condition and the interior was fully re-trimmed by the previous owner. It's had 9 owners, was originally Daytona Yellow. As it's had a colour change and is not a matching engine numbers car the price is much lower than others. I want this car to go to an enthusiast. Please call Max on 0786 677 4656.

RS Centre Caps - Original, Better, Bad
thrashermax replied to Rally Pack 2000's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Left bad copy, middle original, right good copy. -
I've done this a few times... I ended up with 2 M3s, Integra DC5, my RS2000 and my wife's Golf GTi. Neighbours thought I'd become a car sales man. On another occasion, I had a mk1 1300E, Porsche 944 Turbo, BMW 328 and my wife's Bora. Now a days I limit myself to my daily, wife's car and the RS. It's safer on the bank balance and my marriage!

Thanks for the replies, some really good insight. I don't view it as a sum of money, it's the market driving up the values that makes me sad. If they were cheaper, more people would have them and would enjoy them more. I tinker now and again and love driving her. I only have one single garage, so can only have one classic. I drove to Beaulieu motor museum yesterday, 160 mile round trip. Enjoyed every moment. I guess, attending more meets, driving more and tinkering more will keep the interest up.

Glad you posted that Vista, I do love driving her, my wife likes being a passenger, kids not too keen but overall they put up with long journeys. I used her daily recently and it was huge fun. I agree with you, I view prices as a negative, I worry about leaving her parked up. A lot of normal folk won't be able to buy now, that makes me sad.

Had my RS2000 mk1 for 2 1/2 years now, my fifth mk1. It has gone up in value by more than 50%, I do around 1,200 miles a year in her. I keep looking at other cars, mk2s, E30s etc. Is this a psychological problem? Should I just enjoy the mk1 and stop lusting after other cars? How do you keep the passion alive? Aren't others tempted to cash in! How do you lot feel?

She is very nice, a credit to her previous owner who owned her for 7 years. I've done minimal work, fitted rear seat belts, solex door locks, new electronic distributor, WOSP geared starter motor, radio fitted with period speakers and aluminium pressed number plates. In my opinion it's a shame the values have gone up so much as some people will be scared to take them to places and leave them parked up! There was an article in the Kent press about classic Fords being stolen for shipping overseas.

Well spotted! Although, she's running a 2.1 at the moment!

As Vista says above... you need to apply either let the post office send it off or do it yourself. INF34 form from the DVLA has useful info on it:- https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/482325/INF34_181115.pdf I sent my V5 with the tax status marked as 'Historic Vehicle' in the changes bit, form V10 (application for tax), MOT and insurance certificate to DVLA directly then received my new V5 2 weeks later. If your car shows a registration date after 1 January 1975 but it was manufactured in 1974, you will need to send proof of manufacture date. I got proof from the AVO club but Vista can sort out paperwork here. I found it easier to send off directly to DVLA to avoid explaining my car was made in October 1974 to a Post Office person.

Spot the difference between my old V5 and new one… Yes! Tax free now! It will be nice to receive the tax reminder with a big fat £0. Car’s tucked away waiting for better weather, then we’ll take her out to celebrate her tax free status.

Getting attention while out in your OSF
thrashermax replied to dalmarshall's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Friend borrowed my car, he's had Noble before - he got more looks and positive comments from the Escort! I get thumps up, smiles all the time. -
Breathing the Escort fumes keeps me young!
