X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 My cappa sounds great on over run, poppin and bangin like a works cosworth, but when i floor it its fine. Escort21 reckons i should get it on the rollers and get it fettled. problem is i hate it when another man fiddles with me bits
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 Out the zorst Ian.... isnt causing a problem, i thinks its running lean on overrun, lean mixture burns faster so is starts to burn before zorst valve fully shut (im guessing, overlap on cam) , cruises fine, floor it goes very well for the spec, no missing or bangin, just on over run out the zorst, sounds like an explosive gang bang of burning fuel atoms. 2 litre pinto, FR32, 40 dcoes. 5 degrees advance on vernier. get the odd spit through the carbs but il the ones ive had with sidedraught carbs have been the same. carbs efi
ADY Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 sounds like over fueling to me, un burnt fuel going into the exhaust
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 well, im getting a good 34 mpg, which for the spec is bloody good i think, and ive never driven it with economy in mind. no flame, just pops and bangs when on over run, only way to desribe it as like a works cosworth or simallar. ive had 4 foot flames with the last ignition system, but thats another story.
ADY Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 34mpg, f**k me thats good, probably not overfuelling then, Just ignore me!
Mr Sam Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 i get it too........it sounds nice and everything works
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 thats 34mpg, with a cam, 40s, a 4 speed and a 3.77, driven.....enthusiasticly!!! maybe its just overfueling on over run??? ive had this on all multicarbed cars ive had though, i set em up to what i know, they pull hard with no probs, but every tuned multicarb engine ive had has done it.
Twinkle Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 i get it on the prefect, no wait that'll be the hole in the zorst
ADY Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 i watched the vid thats posted up, and it sounds shit hot mate!
Fiesta Steve Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 Almost definatly an air leak on the inlet side of things, usally an iffy mis-ab plate.
stestu001 Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 I get it too probably not quite the same as you as ive got a 1.1 fiesta but it doesnt half pop away on overrun, love the way it sounds but I do that that little niggly feeling that something might be up with it.
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 Almost definatly an air leak on the inlet side of things, usally an iffy mis-ab plate. Thanks steve, they are a few years old now, il get some on order and give em a try.... i dont mind the popping, but i did have a barry boy once ask me where i got my flamer kit

X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks Steve, the whole lot will prob be replaced, the thackeray washers and springs are on thier last legs anyway.
Jay_harrier Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 well, im getting a good 34 mpg .... 34 to the gallon? - Jezuz on a bike!, my old RS2 could only manage 17!, you must roll everywhere
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 No mate, seriously, usualy foot to the boards...many on here can vouch for that too.... if i wanted economy id have a 34 ich and a crappy 5 speed

X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 i think the 30 mm chokes go a long way towards the economy, but dont seem to rob much power, still very tempted to go up to 34s though.
Jay_harrier Posted April 1, 2007 Report Posted April 1, 2007 What power/torque does it make at the mo?
X-pack-Glyn Posted April 1, 2007 Author Report Posted April 1, 2007 no idea, i just mess with it, if it goes better thats good enough, if i fit something that dont work it goes in the bin. i dont like letting others fiddle with me bits.

The increase in choke size may give a bit more mid rangle/top end but possibly sacrafice the bottom end pickup. No harm in playing as long as it doesn't run too lean, you might have to play with the jet sizes to get the best results.
capriluke Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 ive got 34mm chokes in my 40s and im going back to 30mm i got a lot of poping and banging on over run but after i balenced my carbs it wos much better. still there but not so much! 2.0 205block skimmed head 10.2 comp fr32cam 4 branch twin 40s 140bhp 6444rpm 135lbft 4578rpm
