looney_mom Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Right having got the red capri over to Tonys yard, he wants me to make a decision. I dont like decisions . Well not this one anyway. We originally planned to drop the mildly tuned 205 pinto efi lump in, that I tried and failed to sell earlier this year, but then last year we bought that blue mondeo 2.0si that I have up for sale. That is such a great car to drive, that in my head I began to think along the lines of 'I dont want a pinto anymore...' (having just spent most of my money from the red capris insurance settlement after she was vandalised to buy the bits to build up the pinto and what with Tony starting up over the yard we are having to keep our belts tightened). Tony however was all for it and we came by a 2.0 zetec for very little money. Now the only reason that I agreed to move away from carbs (cos there is nothing quite like the sound of a decent set of carbies roaring away under acceleration is there?) and onto efi is by using throttle bodies, which I dont yet have. I've been let down 3 times by various people over TBs recently but I know I could source a set easy enough for £75-100, except that I cant come up with the cash at the mo. I have the inlet manifold needed, cost me £60 from local scrappy, off an RS Focus. I also need a water rail but I reckon if I can get hold of this guy who calls himself Zetec Boy on the BuySellCortina forum, (is he known on the OSF forum as well?) then maybe he would let us pick his brains and maybe Tony can make one, as he has done. Engine mounts, no problems obviously, for Tony, which leaves me with the other main expense of ECU, (we thought megasquirt - about £250 for our application). An 1800 water pump is going to be £20 new for me. I have a beautiful 4-branch performance exhaust manifold, custom made by a local-ish company for zetec performance parts company So all in all my shopping list for the red capri is approx £600, IF I have to buy the water rail. Tony now thinks as we have everything we need for the Pinto conversion then we should drop that in and run the pinto for a while, whilst sorting out the rest of the bits needed for the zetec conversion. I will need to buy another 4-branch for it cos I sold the entire system off mine a while ago, thinking I would have no further use for it, I would also need to buy some new rocker arms cos we lost them in the move between workshops (dont ask, it was a very fraught time) and get another efi dizzy but I doubt that will be much from a scrappy. There is bodywork needing to be done on the car (am putting a thread in online diaries for this as soon as I have uploaded the pics) and she will be having a complete respray as well but do I hold out for the zetec or do I give in and go for the pinto for the time being? I'm stuck guys, I just don't know. I dont want a pinto but I have missed my car like mad. I've advertised the pinto 5 or 6 times now and apart from timewasters and idiotic prats I've had no real interest. I dropped the price to £250 but still no joy and we've decided against splitting it. If I dont use the pinto how long will it be before I can drive my car again or do I hold out for what I really want, my zetec capri? What would you do?
